Hiya just to let you know Finally my capital One statment came after 3 weeks of ringing up, I have sent my stuff in the post today by recorded delivery, please can you tell me if im to late for the febuary payment ? If so I will send some token payments off
  • Hi, we have an IVA with grant thornton that was set up after a referral by you and are now in the final year.
Our arrangement requires a lump sum of £19000 to be paid by means of a remortgage at the end of the term but up to now we have had no luck getting one despite trying mortgage providers and brokers. Also the value of our house has fallen so even less equity will be available and i understand the LTV's are less than they were.
So two questions; first are you able to recommend a broker or provider who may be able to help us. Second, if we can't get a remortage or we can but the amount available is way less than the amount GT are looking for what will happen.

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi Rochdale Guy and thank you for your message

I would recommend that you call us as soon as possible to speak to one of our debt counsellors about your situation.
The counsellor will look at your income and expenditure and help you to put together a budget.
They will then discuss all the possible options to deal with your debts.

If you are banking at a bank where you have an overdraft and other debts, then you could look at changing to a basic account elsewhere. This puts you back in charge of your finances and stops the bank taking money from your account without your permission.
You can then repay them at a realistic amount you can afford.
To book an appointment with one of our trained counsellors you would need to contact our helpline free on 0800 138 1111. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. It would be helpful that when you call you have details ready regarding your income, expenditure and creditors, as this can help speed up the referral process. If you have this information ready it may be possible to refer you directly to a counsellor if one is available, otherwise we will arrange a time that is convenient for you to be called back for an appointment.

Alternatively you can visit our online debt advice facility called Debt Remedy. Debt Remedy would assist you in completing a financial statement and you would be provided with tailored advice on the best way to deal with your situation. This link will take you directly to Debt Remedy www.cccs.co.uk/ref/drcu

    Hi Sue,

I tried your website and it suggested bankruptcy (for debts over £15k) or reduced payments to the companies involved.

How realistic is it that they will believe me if I phone them up and tell them I have difficulty paying?
    .
  • Hi
complicated advice needed. Been on payment plan for past 4 and half years and paid off approx £40,000. Having to reduce my payments at last review (cost of living etc) MBNA did not accept my proposal. On January 17th I received a Default Notice telling me that in order to rectify the situation I should pay £17.57 before January 31. Today I phoned them out of interest to ask how short of an acceptable payment amount were my proposals. Imagine my horror when they told me that a Default was registered on December 31. No notice had been sent to me with the statutory 14 days notice to "rectify". They admitted that something had gone wrong. The person on the line said she would transfer the matter to a manager. I would be very grateful of any advice anybody can give me.
    Thanks.

    Hi,

A little bit of advice please im due to start a DMP with you next week. My old bank account closes tomorrow and i've just found out this months child benefit has gone into it, i need to withdraw a little bit to live on til pay day on friday however i dont know whether to withdraw more as the plan was drawn up with a overdraft of £800 and some direct debits will go out of the new account before my salary goes in to it. I don't want to get it wrong before it even starts and if i do withdraw more will i have to justify why even if it just goes into the new account?

    Help

Hi maganan and thank you for your message

If taking out essential funds to pay priorities increases the overdraft, then you could contact our client support team to let them know and they can amend the balance.
Any direct debits that you have set up to pay any non priority debts such as unsecured loans, credit cards, store cards etc should be cancelled. Write to your creditors and inform them you are waiting for your DMP to be set up and if you haven’t already paid them this month offer to pay them something rather than nothing.

If you would like further advice regarding this, then you can call our client support team who will be happy to help.

    Kind regards
    Sue

I have been trying to sort my finances and so far finding it very difficult. I went to the CAB and had a introductory meeting. This left me with hope but then I got a phone message saying they cant help me as I have business debts.
The thing is don't have problem with these debts it is the personal ones I went to see them about.
I have tried to do it myself but it is not going too well. I called Equita on the 11th and said I want to find out what level of payments they will accept. I said I need to work out what I can afford as I have a lot of debt but not a massive amount of income. I would get back to them within 10 days with a figure. This seemed fine, however Equita sent me a letter without a date or a time on it. (they did not knock either) Stating that
Payment is due within 24 hrs and No further arrangements are acceptable and I need to clear the amount owing or they will visit my home and remove my goods even if I am not there. This is for council tax so I suppose they can.

I have spoken to the bailiff handling the debt and he says I have to find all of the money and thats it. £630 or he takes my goods.

What can I do about this. My offer has been £100 per month for 3 months and a reassessment as the total I owe is £4K. They want to keep each case as a way of generating more charges.

I have tried to call equita but can get through as they just refer me to a message saying this bailiff is dealing with your case.

I am going to write to them today not really sure what to say.

    Your advice would be welcome.

Also does CCCS have councilors in Kent for 1-2-1 counseling sessions.

    Thanks

Hi zillyboy and thank you for your message

Your council tax arrears are one of your main priorities and need to be paid before any other non priority debts you may have such as unsecured loans, credit cards, store cards etc.

It is important to keep paying something rather than nothing.

I would recommend that you call for an appointment to speak to one of our counsellors about your situation on 0800 138 1111. The counsellor will put together a budget showing your income and expenditure and work out an amount you can realistically offer towards your arrears. They will then discuss your options.
Most of our appointments are done over the telephone and a counsellor will call you at a time that’s convenient for you.
We have some offices where you may be able to have a face to face appointment. The advisor can discuss whether there is an office near you when you call.

    Kind regards
    Sue

Hi Jonnymac93 and thanks for your post.

Is your wife able to meet the minimum payments or is she struggling? We can advise on her options if she can’t make her current repayments but if this is the case, her credit rating will be affected.

Alternatively she could look at ways to improve her situation so that she is able to pay more towards her debts and clear them quicker. To do this she could either look at reducing her expenditure or maximising her income.

If she would like us to look at her situation she can either our online advice facility, or ring our free Helpline to book a telephone appointment with a counsellor.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,
    Pavan

Hi Pavan. Yes she is able to make minimum payments only but as the debts are spread over several cards ranging from 16.9% upwards this would take tens of years to pay off.
Can you advise of what she could do to consolidate those debts into one loan? As mentioned before even after trying the loan companies mentioned by Martin they will not allow her to take out a loan of 18 - 20K as she is not a home owner.

    Thanks
    Johnnymac93

Hi K_moor25 and thanks for your message

Great to hear that you have finally got the information you needed!

You need to ring our client support team to confirm when your plan can start but it should be ok for February as long as they have everything they need.

    Kind Regards

Hi tped240 and thanks for your message

I would recommend that you speak to your IP, and ask them to discuss your options with you.

If you are not able to remortgage, they may look at extending your IVA for a further twelve months instead.

    Kind regards

How realistic is it that they will believe me if I phone them up and tell them I have difficulty paying?

If you back up your offer of payment with a copy of your income and expenditure, they will be able to see your situation. They will also be able to see that you have sought professional advice.
They don't have to accept your offer of payment, but send the money anyway. You can't pay them money you don't have. Make sure you maintain the payments every month.
If you want to speak to someone in more detail about the suggested options, then you can call our debt remedy support team
If you decide to go ahead with the bankruptcy, then we do have a specialist bankruptcy support team who can give you ongoing support

    Kind Regards
