I think it's very hurtful to treat vulnerable people this was, I presuming that this is the Labour slant on it, what happens if the Tories get in will everyone be put on JSA0

Maybe some people will see this as scare mongring but still take heed as they are the site who moniter thease things.
The site who monitor these things is www.dwp.gov.uk.I think it's very hurtful to treat vulnerable people this was, I presuming that this is the Labour slant on it, what happens if the Tories get in will everyone be put on JSA
The best people to ask would be your prospective MPs.

I got this in an email as well, and the important point to note is that these PROPOSALS,havent yet been passed into law,and considering we are in the middle of an election it will be some time before they are,if they ever are.
I used to be a member of b&w but i eventually realised that they often work to their own agenda, and often put a slant on announcements to encourage people to join and cough up 20 quid for help that is FREELY avaliable elsewhere, this looks very much one such example.
Thanks Woodbine :T, I've gone back and hi-lighted the paragraph stating that I'm not a member, just to be sure readers realise I am not canvassing for people to join
.
I do think it worthwhile alerting people to PROPOSALS as otherwise they can sometimes pass by unnoticed and the next thing you know - it's part of legislation
.
It would be really useful if you could
- to attach links to any sites you've come across, where information is available for free. I find I sometimes spend hours trawling through some pretty boring and irrelevant stuff looking for (and not finding) what I really need.
Thanks :beer:Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

I would happily point anyone in the right direction if i knew what they were looking for,but for now the best place i can advise on for benefits help is the MSE benefits forum, full of experts and heldful people.0

All proposals are on the DWP website. If there is further information that you do not think is there you can submit a FOI request. The beauty of the DWP is that as a govt body they have to be transparent.
Policy proposals are available here. There are some recent ESA documents that may be worth a read.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Thanks again :T - touch wood I am sorted at present, I hope/think

Cheers dmg24, I haven't been around much lately and so haven't run into you since (I think) the depression support thread. I hope you're keeping well and your black dog is ensconced in it's kennel much like mine

Ive just come across this article on the benefits and works blog lerts see how many agree with me thats its downright stupid what this gvt has proposed!!
Once again, a bombshell that could cause huge financial hardship to tens of thousands of claimants has been dropped, virtually unnoticed, by a government minister.
The shock plans, for `simplifying' the work capability assessment for employment and support allowance (ESA) include docking points from amputees who can lift and carry with their stumps. Claimants with speech problems who can write a sign saying, for example, `The office is on fire!' will score no points for speech and deaf claimants who can read the sign will lose all their points for hearing.
Meanwhile, for `health and safety reasons' all points scored for problems with bending and kneeling are to be abolished and claimants who have difficulty walking can be assessed using imaginary wheelchairs.
These changes, and many more, have already been approved by the secretary of state for work and pensions but have not yet passed into law. They will affect both ESA claimants and the 1.5 million incapacity benefits claimants waiting to be assessed for ESA. Read more in:

If you're not a member, you can find out more, comment on the plans and learn how to try to prevent them happening in our new blog:
Thousands to lose benefits as harsher medical approved (This article is open access)

It would seem if you can read then you are not deaf and if you can write you do not have problems with speech or if you can hook your stump underneath an object then you are not armless
Oh and it doesn't matter if you can't walk - there's always an imaginary wheelchair to get you around
This country has surely gone a step too far and is completely stark raving brainless and whoever passed this wants shooting or forced to have to live with a disabled person.....0 -
...There's already a topic on this subject.
Mods, can we get this merged, please?
Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0 -

Sensible post Woodbine and I agree with you, both about the fact that these are at the moment only proposals, and about the website, who I think quite often are just scaremongering.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
To be honest, I do think it's slightly irresponsible to send an email like this out to many vulnerable people who's health could be affected by just reading something like this. Yes we need to be aware that there are proposals that could affect us, spelling them out in the worst possible terms, is in my opinion, unnecessary and wrong.0
