buyer not received item, but proof of postage

Hi all, having an issue with ebay/paypal.
I sold an item on 4/4/10, posted 6/4/10 the same day buyer paid.
I offered free 1st class postage but also offered special/recorded at additional cost. they wanted the free postage
I got proof of postage from post office - buyer has opened paypal dispute - and paypal have automatically deducted the money from my account 'until the matter is resloved'
The buyer only contacted me once last week, i said i have proof of postage and requested email address to forward scanned proof of postage to them with no reply, I also suggested tehy contacted local sorting office to see if item is there waiting for them, but got no reply. Now today i get the paypal dispute
Any advice what to do now?
I have responed to the paypal dispute stating i offfered multiple postage options and have proof of postage and have replied to buyers initial email but had no reply. what are the chances of actually getting the funds re-applied to my account? It wasnt a massive amount but £37 is still a sizeable sum to me

Proof of postage is no good - you need proof that the item was delivered. It's a hard lesson for you in how ebay works, but they will get their refund ...however you should be able to claim from Royal Mail.0

No chance at all. If the item has gone missing you are the only one who can make a claim from Royal Mail. Not the buyer's fault, or yours, so a refund is the only way to go.0

Just be glad you have your proof of posting, Royal Mail will probably pay out around £30 or you may have the package returned by RM.0

I would always add the 75p cost of recorded. its not worth posting without there is too many people prepared to claim it didnt come for their money back.
Once i lost out the cost of a game, never again. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -
Unfortunately a lesson learned
Personally i have a limit of £10 - if an item sells for more than £10 i automatically send via recorded delivery, even if the buyer only choses to pay the standard delivery option (as i offer numerous delivery methods too).
I see it as the extra 75p or therabouts that i'll pay means i don't lose out completely should the item go missing.
I know other people set their limit lower at say £5, it's basically a limit at which you'd be prepared to lose out on if it happenedAnd at no extra cost to buyer of course.

Who is losing out here? If you get proof of postage, which is free, you will be compensated. Some have had bad experiences, but I never have. One item gone missing out of hundreds. If your item is worth less than £40, it's pointless. If more you should be sending insured.0

ah so even if they refund the buyer i can still claim the cost back via my proof of postage? I am not wanting the buyer to be out of pocket, but at the same time i dont see why i should be either when they stated they wanted it to be sent 1st class.0

It's you who has the contract with Royal Mail. You could always try the delivery office of the person you sent the item to, not ideal but I would be checking that first. It could be that it's sitting there for 3 weeks waiting to be collected. Did you put a return address on the package?4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Luckily i have never had to claim from RM (or i have never bothered if the item has been just a couple of £) - don't they only offer compensation in postage stamps? Or is that old now? Even though it's got value i'd find it a pain in the bum.
Also too many a time i have heard on forums of people complaining how difficult it is to get compensation from RM. Never had to as i always try to cover myself by paying the extra if it goes over my own limit - that way i abide by Paypal's annoying rules too, not only that you get less people trying it on. Also saves myself hassle of having to chase something up, spesh as i don't particularly enjoy filling out those little proof of postage slips.
I have had a few where buyers have (maybe or maybe not) tried it on - they'll claim non-receipt after a few days, it would have been paid for at 'sellers standard rate' but posted recorded so i'll just check the tracking number and it'll say something like attempted delivery - then i just tell them and advise them to call their local sorting office as it's prob sitting there waiting for them after all. Makes me look more helpful too, i usually get a nice thank you reply after

Sounds a little suspect to me if i'm honest - they clearly wanted it on a non-trackable methodBut there is little that can be done about that now, just when you leave feedback make it clear they claimed non-receipt and you gave a refund
That way you'll give future sellers a heads up to send recorded, no matter what method they pay for
Leave a plain and simple feedback - not neg in the slightest just factful.
Yep you can claim from your POP slip, not sure the full details but i think you can get info on RM website.Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0
