You can't bank another's cheque

I have just been to 3 different banks because I cannot get to my own (I also have a disability) and need to bank a cheque urgently. At one time you could bank any cheque at any bank, then some started to charge, now it appears none of the takke others cheques. What happened to the "international banking system? Why are they allowed to get away with this? Why can't you pay (yes it was a rip off) to "speed a cheque through anymore?" We all know it's in their account straight away, its only us tha have to wait while they use it.

We ned a radical change here. Martin what can you advise us to do about this?

Are you saying (for instance) you used to be able to pay a cheque into your account via the Halifax when your account was with the Nationwide?

Martin is unlikely to reply BTW.

    Hi Leobon.

Im not sure that's right. You could always bank a cheque at a different branch of your own bank, but I'm pretty sure you couldn't present a cheque to Barclays if your account is with HBOS.

Cheque payments will be obsolete soon enough so I wouldnt get too peeved about it!

If you have a paying in slip I'm pretty sure you can post the cheque to your branch.

I thought a clearing bank HAD to accept payments, cash or cheque into an account held by another bank??

Why dont you just post any cheques you get to your bank? This will save you having to trvael to the bank itself. I used to do this when I lived in a remote area.

They won't, it's only guaranteed checks which are being phased out.
