has anyone ever taken the back of one of these to upgrade Ram?

back is stuck and wondering if there is some trick to removing it

  • I noticed this with an Acer recently. If you've taken out the screws and the little panel feels like it's being held on by a lump of very strong blu-tac it could be those spring-type retainers around the edge. If you ease something flat under the panel and lever upwards it should pop off.

    I've got a similar machine an M7400, I had to pull the harddrive on mine. I also suffered the same confusion, I removed the screws then couldn't figure out why the cover wouldn't come off. You need to get something flat like a butter knife and insert it into the gap between the case an the cover you are trying to remove, then gently push the knife as if to make it stand up on its blade. This leverage will mean the small set of small protrusions under the cover itself holding it to the inside of the case shall be released and the cover should spring up the knife blade.

    Getting it off however, is easy. The difficult bit is getting it back on. The plastic is reasonably flexible but not that easy to flex.

    I also have a Amilo laptop but havent had any real problem with taking either of the panels off after I realised I had missed a screw
