BS - I think the rule you're referring to is no links in signatures. Don't think Tootles has overstepped this one.

Twink.... a quilt can take as little as a week if its machine pieced and quilted, I once did one for a friend whi had cancer in 10 days, but mostly around a month. If I sat and sewed all day I could do one quicker, but the strain on your esyes and hands would be enormous.

I do have times when I 'go off' sewing, and during the hot weather it has been impossible which is why it tends to be something you do in the winter, but you do need a good light to quilt with especially if you are working on black cloth, you cannot see where you have stitched!!!!!

I am about to tackle a new cncept, my SIL is mad on golf and I am going to combine my machine embroidery with quilting by making him a quilt with golfers embroidered on, I will do the golfers on a background fabric and then put them together in a quilt, possibly a wall hanging....... I have just realised I have a couple of wall hanging whcy are not in the photo albums, I will add them to the webshot albums, one is called crazy chickens.... you will see why, the other is stick and stones.

PP.... there is a fantastic website I will send you a private message with the link, its a video programme with lessons etc, its a pity you do not live a little closer to me......... Plenty of info on the net google patchwork and quilting...
you may find some useful books in the library. Lyn Edwards has a couple of good books called sampler books these have quilt blocks made using different techniques which make up into a sampler quilt, I think the easiest to start with is a log cabin block, it just uses stright strips of fabric sewn together, my very first attempt was two log cabin cushions followed by a bag made from different blocks. You could look up the Quilters Guild page and see whats on in your area, you will proably find somewhere you could go to classes to learn the basics. I am mostly self taught, did have a few lessons when I was in Hampshire, but the tutor told me I was really past the first stages and should go forward on my own, which is what I have done.

Thought you werent allowed to put personal websites on here?

You can put any link you like in a post as long as it's not abuse or spam.

People are no longer allowed to link to their home pages in their signatures though. This was because people were posting lots of commercial sites and referral sites. It got to be too much work checking and policing them so they turned links in sigs off.

Even so you are allowed to have a link to your home page in your profile. so if you click on my avatar and view profile you'll get the chance to go visit my home page :)
