Mobile network with free 0808 numbers

Options
Does anybody know a network out there that provides free 0808 numbers. I want to change my mobile to it so that I can use "call 1899" but this must be used in conjuction with a free phone number. Most mobile providers charge you for 0808 numbers. If there is a provider out there would I have to be on a contract or could I use pay as you go. Cheers Phil.

Beware that most Orange tarrifs now charge for 0800/0808 numbers, you don't even get allowed to use them as part of your monthly bundle. You'll have to check each individual one to be sure, but I think it's just the older tarrifs that offered it, and there'll be no new connections made to them.

Unless, of course, someone knows differently.

Orange do not charge for calling 0800/0808 on their current monthly plans, except when you are using 0800/0808 to use a "calling card service". This means that they will charge if you are using a freephone number to call a service, like 18866.com which facilitates onward dialling.

They will only charge you when they recognise the fact that the number you are calling is allowing onward dialling. This is usually defined by a recorded message which is heard while you are dialling the feephone number to the effect that "the number you are dialling is a calling card service, if you continue to dial you will be charged at your standard rate".

Steve is completely correct; but Orange can be very slow to recognise new numbers; I spoke to someone the other day that said Orange has not recognised one of his numbers for 6 years
