I kinda agree with both of you. Though a footballer, (using simple sums here you understand) earning 10 million would give 4 million straight to the government. Think that's a big enough chunk.
You also got to feel sorry for them, think of the stamp duty on their mansions!!0 -
If a footballer (for example) or any other very high earning profession that doesn't provide a service or anything of use (ok so I'm not a football fan) were to get taxed, 50% say and they were earning 100,000 per week, would that not be reasonable to expect them to pay 50,000 of it to the government simply so nurses, doctors etc could have a pay rise? I suppose what I am trying to say is wouldn't it be better if they had another tax threshold set at say £500,000pa where people earning this amount or higher had to pay 50%, or is that too much? Was debt free... then went travelling!0

hold on...what's 1% of 5 million.....?!! Was debt free... then went travelling!0 -
Just seen your sig. Thanks for letting us know your female! LOL, where did that come from!?
As Hereward already says, footballers are in demand the world over, david beckham is for instance better off over whereever he is than he was in england.
Football creates HIGE revenue streams. If the footballers leave because of high tax, the government would lose a LOT more from all the money football makes for them. VAT on every single ticket....VAT on every single drink consumed aswell as the alcohol tax anyway.
The government could easily for instance crack down on binge drinking. Shame they won't, it's making them a fortune in revenue, they may hve to send more resources in, but the revenue from the VAt, the other taxes on wine and booze etc that they make....
It's like petrol, if they wanted to reduce carbon etc they could use biodiesel...but normal diesel makes them too much money.0 -

50,000.
If your thinking about stamp duty, forget the 1%, it's 3% for that amount of money.
So their stamp duty would be the price of an average house if they were buying a place for 5 million!0 -

Ahh, didn't think of that!
See the thing is, I harp on but in actual fact I know nothing about politics, only what I see and hear from people and I have never voted because I don't think any party is worth voting forWas debt free... then went travelling!0 -

The camera I just bought on Amazon - reduced by £5 2 days later. Not a lot, but enough to make me go 'argh' - I'd been waiting for months to buy it to see if the price came down too.0 -
LOL. I see the reason for your statement in your sig now then

Oooo, contraversial :T
Must say, I don't know much either, only what effects me. My plea for not knowing anything more is it's so boring!0 -
It is boring to be fair! Plus why would you want to learn anything about a load of two faced, lying sewer rats? One named Tony, one named gordon...:D
I better stop before I get arrested but I will say that one of the main things that does 'come down' is my tolerance levelWas debt free... then went travelling!0 -

Ah,but that`s the only bit of democracy left----the vote. The way I see it is unless a radical party gets to power{fat chance}we will only get more of the same.During Thatchers time ,people crowed about how they could buy a their council houses on the cheap.Well good for them, but many lost them when interest rates soared.Thatcher said that she was going to turn us all into capitalists.Sold off the privatised industries for a song so the general public could buy shares on the cheap and then cash them in for a good profit and then,oh dear, interest rates went through the roof ,15% at one point, homes and businesses reprossessed. Now mrs.t,she of the dodgy son, had the ``economic revolution``.Later on the loverly``Things can only get better`` boy Blair hits the scene----wow! are we gonna rock! It`s the end of boom and bust.
Along with his side kick--Hamish Mac Golden Clown he comes along with his ``economic miracle``,trouble is,it was all based on retail spending.Spending which has got a loada folks in the s h 1 t!Cause when ya house goes up weall feel rich.Yes and folks saw their houses like atm machines.Oh my house has gone up 30k this year----let`s have the new beamer!
Now we have a stupid situation of massive debt in this country, houses which are by and large unaffordable to young people who are forced to go into, often, dodgy accomodation, again often chucked out by the landlord because he has to sell his buy -to - let portfolia else he goes bust.
Some,I am sure have prospered, but many decent working people have or will suffer.
What I am afraid of,is that there is a deliberate policy designed to create an under class. The average working Joe,like me,is feeling a little sick when I talk to people who don`t work, won`t work and are not much worse off than me.Ok,I own my own home which is worth what ever, but I am no richer.I run a very micro business which is doing far worse than it was 2 years ago.I have no debt bar 5k left on the mortgage yet I feel worse off than i did 25 years ago.
The 10`s of thousands commited into a pension will be just a bet better than nothing. Why have I saved,I expect my pension will be worth a little more than the tax credits I could have got.
Anyway, sorry for the rant.I am off to a dark room and taking a little lay down
lol!0
