building credit

i have had poor credit in the past but spot on for 2 to 3 years , i moved house 6 months ago , ive had a capitalone card for about 18 months i paid £200 for the card and got a £200 limit but after 8 months they upped the credit to £400 , i use the card every month spending between 100 and 350 a month and alway pay it off in full every month without fail , ive been with halifax for over 3 years but only have the basic account with a cheque book and electron visa card and no overdraft , i am unemployed as a carer my wife has M.E and i have a 2 year old with cystic fibrosis along with 2 other children so thereis no chance of me working but our monthly income is over £2000 a month , so the woman at my local branch said you chould apply for the current account to get intrest on the money in the account (which is always over £2000 ), so i applied for their current account and was turned down when i asked why the woman said she'd find out and came back with something from a previous address 4to 5 years ago but could not tell me what it was , i am a member of experian and i do pay monthly checking my record , and i have nothing on there that shows anything bad and my bank account and CC are all [0]00000000000 , i am looking to get another credit card to try to help me build my record more , and maybe get a bank account that i can earn interest on .

i hope you havent fell asleep yet lol , but any help or ideas on where to go would be greatly received , i dont know if im stupid but im worried about applying incase i get turned down and ruin what i have been building up of the past few years

hi you say you have a poor credit in the past? can you explain more
if you had bad credit in the past 6 years this woukd show on your credit file, experian are not the only ones who hold information about you , there are 2 other companies who hold information as well, equifax and another one i cant recall,

for example, experian might not show what the others do and when the bank does a search on you, they miight use the other company who might hold adverse information about you, i would check the other two companies out,

as you are a carer that is your job, and your national insurance is paid for you as it is an income, you are a househusband/ carer,

thats my advise xx hope it helps x

are you on the electrol role?

    Thank you BONJOEY

poor credit was proberley around 4 or 5 years ago maybe a bit more just late payments and not bothering with things in general , but for the past 3 years minimum everything has been paid well before its due date and 95% of other things are done by direct debit , i have only checked the one credit agency so maybe worth checking the others

yes i would say im a househusband/carer and i am also on the electrol roll

I was thinking of going into a halifax branch and saying something onlong the lines of if you dont upgrade my account then i will move as its costing me money not getting interest on my account etc , and see wether they can sort something out , there must be a certain leeway and they can see my accounts have been in order for many years and to give me a go i dont want a overdraft or stuff like that , do you think its worth it ? lol

    :o
i would check out the other two credit refrence agencies first, see what they hold about you, if you say the defaultts, i,e late payments were 4, 5 years ago, then they will come of your credit file after 6 years,

this will improve your credit rating once they have been removed,
i would also go into your bank and explain, that although it looks as your unemployed, you are infact a carer and that is your job, i hate the fact that carers are not recognised as workers, you cant go out to work as you have to care for you wife and child, this is a job!!!!

youe income is good, and your standing with your bank looks good, if the lady in the bank says something was showing up 5 years ago, like i say check out the other 2 agencies, or ask the bank which company they used for the search, save paying for all 3 credit reference files,
    good luck xx

I have today applied for my credit record at checkmyfile.com its all 3 agencys for £14.95 a quarter which i thought was good value , i tried equifax but they say they cant confirm who i am even though i am on the electrol roll etc experian never had this problem and neither has checkmyfile , i cant access it till tomorrow when i get a code via the postie ,

If there is something bad on there from 5 years ago do you think it is worth repairing that default or what ever it is or leaving it for a year ? as wouldnt it stay on my file as satisfied for another 6 years which doesnt look as good as nothing on there at all ?

Or alternatively you could have just paid £6 a quarter and got the paper copy and not had rubbish like this on it:
The content will not be refreshed unless the most recently refreshed credit file is more than one month old.

E.g. updates once a month at most.

    or
    Accounts

This agency does not provide credit account performance information within the dataset provided to us.

Thanks BONJOEY , do you think if i have a year left on the default or what ever it is i should leave it as it will be off in a year or sort it out , will it be on for another 6 years from when satisfied ?

im not 100% but im sure all defults weather satisfied or not come off after 6 years automatically,
i think if you find out what the default is, ( or problem) trying to get it removed early will be hard, unless its no fault of your own, and there mistake, i would wait and see what shows up,

hopw you get the report soon, xx;)

    OK here goes ......

experian score is 501 (1 star rating) with no adverse credit things apart from it says i dont have enough searches ,and im on the electrol roll

callcredit score is 713 (3 start rating) with no adverse credit things apart from it says i dont have enough searches ,and im NOT on the electrol roll at my presant addy yet but have me at my last one

equifax score is 747 (3 star rating) with no adverse credit things apart from it says i dont have enough searches ,and im on the electrol roll also says no audit footprints

All 3 say im clear of any CCJ's or defaults

do i need to apply for credit more ?
and if so what happens if i get turned down ?
i really just wish there was something there for me to have to sort then i'd know why , oh well looks like im gonna go to the bank in a while and see what i can do
