Please excuse my ignorance (you can tell I'm not the country type!). I have a thorny bush full of berries in my garden. They look like blackberries (I think) but I would like to be sure before i poison anyone. Is there an online site that could id my fruit? I would probably be able to pick out a banana in a line up, but only probably! Your help is much appreciated.

If you type the word blackberry into Google, click on the little downward arrow in the Google Search box, then select Google Images - you will get lots of blackberry pictures (including the techno type)
  • Where's a good place to go in Cardiff? I was thinking the big cememtery in Heath as it is very overgrown in places....is that disrespectful, or not? I thought it would be OK as long as you pick from areas away from graves, or am I wrong?
  • I've seen blackberrys ready in Cardiff for about 3 weeks now, big ripe juicy ones! They were in the centre of town though, and being a young male was a bit embaressed to get stuck in and get picking although I was chomping on the bit!
  • Hiya Davo, I pick my blackberries in tropical Barry !
;) I am the only Voucher Queen in my village LOL ;)
  • Went to Barry Island the other day and even the water was tropical!(although my friends told me it was warm for a variety of different reasons which I won't go into now....) Great beach there, will look out for blackberries next week on my trip there!
  • Hi all,
I live in Basingstoke, which is quite close to the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston. Consequently, although there are heaps of blackberries to be had in the local vicinity, I am a bit reluctant just in case they might have been irradiated. Might be me just being over paranoid, so I wonder what anybody else thinks, particularly if you live in the area.

    Cheers

The places to look for blackberries are untended areas at the edge of or in the middle of any open space - preferably away from traffic! I don't know Brent / Harrow at all, but if you have any open commonland there's bound to be some there somewhere. I suppose the parks in Central London are more 'formal', but a long time since I worked there!

    Easy way to tell..................

Try picking blackberries at night. If the bushes are full of brightly glowing blackberries, don't pick them!

loads if you walk the paddington to hayes section of the grand union canal in central London, alot of locals were out there picking but if you're tall there'll still be loads left!

A word of warning.... Everyone knows not to pick the low down blackberries because of dogs peeing on them, but when picking on canal towpaths bear in mind what male boat dwellers may be doing if their chemical loo is getting a bit full...
