TV deal price drops after purchase

I bought a tv and blue ray player on bank holiday monday I was told that the deal on it was running out that night. I happened to go into the store on the following saturday 5 days after buying it and have found that the price has dropped by £50.
I said to the shop assistant that I was not happy that they had dropped the price and was there anything he could do, he said that there wasn't. I told him that I could go home package everything up and return it and then buy it again at the lower price (it worked in Argos a few years ago) he told me that as I had unpacked it, I could not return it.
Is there anyway of getting the difference back without having to go to the trouble of packaging everything back up?
Many thanks

You have absolutely no right to the difference whether you package it back up or not. (depending on any price match policy which I assume there is none from the salesman comments).
Would you have had your chequebook out if the price had risen by £50?0 -
No right of return here.
As above, if the price had gone up, would you have offered them another £50?
Prices change all the time. If it was a DSG store or Comet, you should expect this anyway. 'Offers' are usually no such thing.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
thems the breaks OP, we don't always get the best bargain...0

Dont see why you would get the difference back, would you return the tv when asked to and pay the higher price if it went up instead of down0

It really isn't surprising how many clueless people start threads on here.
Think of it as a £50 fine on the dumb.

They were correct. It was a new deal that was £50 cheaperThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Where I work, I'm glad I never have to deal with this sort of thing, because we have a price promise that if the item goes down in price within 28 days of purchase the customer can have the difference back.
It pays to shop around, really and see what policies stores have.
I expect the TV and player are now discontinued now anyway as most manufacturers are in the process of changing their lines. I'd have waited until the new models were bedded in as they're all launching in the same sort of price bracket as their predecessor give or take about £10.0 -
That's just the way things work and it's pretty unlucky, it's happened to me loads in the past.
Saying that we bought a new tv a couple of weeks ago from the Tesco website and it's now £50 more expensive than when I bought it, I wouldn't expect them to ask me for an extra £50 next time I go shopping. If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.0

If price went up would you go back and pay difference, I bet the answer would be a resounding 'no'0

I've had that problem before, with the price going down after purchase. This is what I did. Buy the item again at the cheaper price. Then return it (still in it's original wrapping) and give them the original full price receipt. You will then have the difference back. It worked for me.0
