Unlocked dongle, but cannot get a connection

I have successfully unlocked a ZTE 627 dongle. However I cannot access the internet as I cannot get a connection.

I have tried with both a 3 sim card and a Vodafone one and get the message, "The remote server is not responding in a timely fashion."

I am using Windows 7. I have checked the MS site and all it does is lists a load of error codes and messages you might get with Win 7, but no solutions.

There was a site that offers to fix "not responding" errors, but I don't trust it.

For the 3 sim I have entered the APN as "three.co.uk" and no other settings.

For the Vodafone one I changed the APN from "Internet" to "pp.vodafone.co.uk" as it is a PAYG sim and entered the other recommended settings.

I unlocked the dongle on the desktop before trying it in the netbook.

I already had all the settings in from the original download info, but it's still not working
    Vodafone
    Internet
    APN: internet Username: web
    Password: web
    Primary DNS: 158.043.240.004

However I changed the APN to pp.vodafone.co.uk and also tried pp.internet as it's a PAYG sim.

Also tried the settings in your link above, but they say wap instead of web. Still no joy.
Vodafone GPRS settings (WAP) / Vodafone Live!:

    Session type: Continuous / permanent
    Authentication: Normal
    Network type: Ipv4

if you stick in the "3" sim card can you get access to https://www.three.co.uk ?

If you can, then it's not the connection it's more likely that the sim is either not registered or is out of credits for web browseing (you can always get access to that site if you get a connection even with no credits).

also try "3internet" for the "3" APN see if that makes a difference..

Do you have the Three connection software installed on the Netbook? If so, connect the '3' SIM using the '3' software and the Vodafone using the Vodafone software?

It could be that the generic mobile manger needs updating for Windows 7.

This is the Vodafone Connection software if you still need it.

No I'm getting the same message with both the 3 sim and the Vodafone sim in the unlocked dongle which makes me think it may be something to do with Win 7.

Yes the 3 sim works using the 3 Connection software.

The Vodafone eventually connected with the Vodafone connection software, but it keeps dropping the connection which is another problem altogether.

This is the first time I have tried to connect the Vodafone sim as I bought it to use on holiday.

You might need this updated Connection Manager for Windows 7 and the ZTE MF 626 you now have.

Thanks for that. I'll try it later when I have a bit of time in case it all goes horribly wrong.
