Had another two emails again.. just the same as the ones i originally posted above ... last week. This time it was sent to a different email address i use and the 'username' that they assigned me (for supposedly signing up to their music store account) is different than what was 'issued to me' previously.

It is genuinely Nokia alright. The links take me to their official site (music.nokia.co.uk).

But it stinks the way they are doing this. The user names they are automatically giving me are based on the first part of my email addresses. (In the same way scammers use to make it look more personal.)

I seriously object to a large well known company like Nokia trying to fool me into believing i signed up for an account with them when i obviously haven't.

It looks to me like they are buying up email addresses and mass emailing them (or generating the emails randomly) to increase their customer base (by force).

I wonder if that reply is code for "sorry for attempting to commit fraud by alleging you signed up for a service that you actually had nothing to do with. We got caught out and won't try to defraud you or misrepresent the facts in the future". :D

Good! Hope that told them off good and proper! :)

My daughter is very worried having just received one of these emails and have contacted Nokia to let them know she had not joined up, asking if this was a scam or official and to cancel. This really is bad if they are continuing to do this and they should be stopped.

Follow up: Finally a reply saying they would delete her details but no explanation or answer. Mentioned data protection act and no reply either to that.
