Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 10th April. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning Peeps
another nice day is forecast for today :j i`m part way through building another raised bed in the garden (hence not having time to post yesterday) and i`m hoping to get it finished today if possible. This one is taking longer than the last one to make as i`m on my own doing it and all that sawing and drilling when there is no one to help hold the planks is a bit time consuming.
Fantastic bargain though as we managed to get some of the decking boards that are seconds in Bee and queue, only £1.98 each and i`m making a deep raised bed which is 2 boards deep (about 10") which will be great for carrots etc. When its eventually down i can take some of the gravelly soil out of the other bed that i made a few weeks ago and riddle it into the new one so that the gravelly soil is at the bottom and then i can dig it some new stuff and some compost so that they will both be ready to plant up.
I`ve neglected the house a bit for the last couple of days as i`ve been so busy outside, today i need to catch up and get the upstairs sorted out, bathroom needs a scrub and the loo seat has decided to go a bit wonky so i shall need to take that off and tighten up the fittings, the bed needs a change and i shall get the bedding on the line for that wonderful outside freshness. I also need to do some cooking as we`re running low on a few things.
Diva - Glad to hear that you are on the mend :j
SunnyG - Thanks for keeping us informed
Sistercas - Our grass got its first cut yesterday, still needs the edges tidying up though but it looks tons better.
Taplady - Sorry to hear of your DH`falling, hope that he is ok now, enjoy your new car!
Right, as its almost light i`m off to put the first load of washing on the line and put another load on.
Have a super sunny Saturday everyone!

Morning
Haven't caught up on yesterdays thread yet - I tried last night but fell asleep! My tablets seem to be giving me a bad case of narcolepsy at the moment....fell asleep mid-conversation with DH the other night - it was only because he started laughing I woke up
Bitsy I've pm'd you re the laptop - hope you can pick your pm up, if not let me know here.
Diva Hope you're fit for posting soon.
I have re-arranged the madness that is my MSing jobs at the moment and given myself and the chauffeur the day off so I intend to clean the kitchen so it doesn't look like I've been burgled and then bake up a stormIts my neighbour's daughters birthday tomorrow but her party is today so I'll be doing some cakes for that any I never got round to the HM pizza's so I'm going to make dough for that and maybe do some for the party too. Going to put some tomatoe sauce on the stove in a minute to cook over a low heat with some garlic and fresh basil. Also got a little jar of pasta sauce made from sundried tomato (looks more like red pesto 50p from lidl) which I'm going to mix in to thicken it up.
I need to make a 'To Do' list and get on with it although I don't think i'll move far from the kitchen today so the me and the laptop are set up in here.:D
Weather looks promising, although not certain so fingers crossed for that!

Morning all,and what a glorious morning it is here in Kent.Much more like spring at last thank goodness.Only one more week till my spring holiday.I have already stuck a machine load on and sorted out my craft bag .Only have another 6 large plastic boxes to sort, but it won't be done today as I must get all my vinyl records down to the sitting room for the chap to look at tomorrow afternoon.
I found a nice card in my card box for my DD's MIL Margaret as its her birthday tomorrow and have wrapped her presents up. She is a lovely lady who is 73 tomorrow (Big Franks wife) who had a lot of worry when he had his heart attack a few weeks ago.Thankfully he is getting better by the day.I bought her a nice box of chocolate covered truffles and a big bottle of perfume.Nothing like getting something special on your birthday, she has been so supportive to me over the past few years as she is 18 months in front of me in remission. My poor DGS danny was devastated when he knew both of his Granny's had breast cancer .He said it seemed so unfair, but luckily we both are doing well and bless her she phones me every night to have a chat and make sure all is well, so a little bit of pampering won't go amiss.
Eldest DD is coming for coffee and cake this afternoon as SIL and DGS are going to football.Good chance to catch up and have a natter I think.
'basil' my very cheeky blackbird has just been for his breakfast. He sits outside my window and makes an awful fuss if I don't make sure some food is there for him. I definitely think he has a 'mrs basil' in a nest at the bottom of the garden as he often flies off with some food in his beak ,after he has fed himself first of course (typical chap).
Hopefully MSD will be back online at some point soon I do hope she is feeling better, we all miss her here I think.
I am going to make some chilli and a lasagne today for the freezer,I will also be organising what I am taking with me foodwise when I go away next Saturday.
We usually take some stuff with us when we go on our spring break and eat out a couple of times I will have to google some nice restaraunts near to Shipton-under -wychwood.I know a couple in Oxford (if they are still there) from when I lived there.I also want to visit the bookshop in the High in oxford .We are hoping that we can possibly get a bus in from maybe Witney to save hunting for parking there.I don't suppose the parking has improved in the past 40 odd years in Oxford. It will be strange to be there though,I met my late husband there in 1962 when I lived in Headington so it will be like going down memory lane I expect, still I am looking forward to it. Well time to get a wriggle on and have some breakfast.have a great day everyone what ever you do
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Morning All
((hugs)) to Diva and hope she is soon back with us.
:grouphug: to Cranky who is feeling a bit down atm. How is Grumpy, please let us all know.
The lounge is now bereft of most of the furniture and the rest will go very shortly, and it will probably look like a war zone before the end of the day, Have some cooked mince out of the freeze and a fish pie mix, so looks like some mash and veg will soon sort out a meal. Went to the market and Aldi yesterday so well stocked up. Also ordered the new fire for the lounge "ouch".
Better get a wiggle on. Take care all, ((hugs)) to those who need one, to everyone else.
DG
p.s. Your vibes for DS's GF are doing well so far, second interview on Wednesday, but 20 garments to come up with designs for before then, so she is having a busy weekend.
Please keep them coming for Wednesday.Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club

Good Morning all been up since 3am as we had to have the police and fire brigade out as someone had put petrol on our gates and set them on fire at the back seems it was our usual neighbour involved but as per usual cant prove it will get another neighbour to check his camera but wont hold my breath seems odd after i had to ask him to move his cars from blocking my garage so i could put the car away and pointing out that the service road was a road not a car park for his 4 cars only 2 adults in the property
Not sure what we will be up to OH is going to get someone he knows out to see how much metal gates will be but we will have to repair these for the moment so will be seeing where we can find some shirt buttons
WM and DW are on am itching to hoover but everyone is in bed still
dog has been walked
right will have a look in the freezer to see whats for tea
MSD glad you are doing OK
Bitsy Beans hope you get connected again soon
Hugs to all have a good day and enjoy the sun0 -
morning all!
just got back from work - did a sleep-in.
Diva - am glad to hear you're on the mend :j- we have missed you!
JackieO - nice to hear Basil is doing well! we have loads of birds in our hedge and I'm sure I heard the sound of little ones the other day.
Weekend off now for me:j got to clean the holiday cottage this morning then can have a relaxing afternoon and watching the Grand National! I had the winner last year so fingers crossed this year. I've picked 4 and had a couple of quid each way on them. One of them has a strong emotional meaning for me - Backstage - this was my friend Lesley's favourite song by Gene Pitney and I remember her well singing it out of tune:D so I have to back it in her memory! The others are Mon Mome, Tricky Trickster and Maljimar. Good luck to those having a bet! not very OS but fun!:D
Got a sainsburys delivery later and for tea I'm having a go at a recipe I've seen on tv which is a sheet of puff pasty made into a pizza with some roasted veggies and cheese on top - sounds yummy!
have a lovely weekend all xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Hi jackie,
There are several park n rides - one at Peartree roundabout would be good coming in from Chippy direction. I was a student and lived in Headington for four years and then Witney/ Chippy for 5 years and had my children at the cottage hospital so was am very familiar with where you are going. There have been huge changes to Witney and they have developed the town with a new cinema and shopping complex - I was amazed when we drove through at xmas. Hope the weather stays good for you.
Glad MSD is getting better xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0
