We had our first caravan holiday last year and went to Primrose Valley in June and had a great time, paid extra for a prestige caravan which was clean and tidy. The park was huge with plenty to keep my 3 year old entertained, enjoyed it that much going back this Oct.
  • The replies have put my mind at ease a bit. It's only me, my partner and our toddler going and like others have said we're really just using it as a base. We've previously went on a Pontins break and before we went we read all the terrible reviews but found it perfectly fine. I guess it really does depend on what you're expecting to get for your money.

I think you have to put into perspective the numbers of visitors these places get. There are hundreds of people on these sites, chances are some one will not be happy with something.

It's a given that many more people will post about a bad experience than will ever post about a good one. Put simply, if you get what you expect you are not likely to shout about it. If you experience is bad, or exceptionally good then you do.

With that in mind, we are off to combe Haven next week. Will post my findings, good, bad or otherwise when we get back

Got back yesterday from Golden Sands Mablethorpe. It was fine the kids loved it.
The caravan was basic but clean and well equiped, the kids club was great, free swimming was great there was an outdoor and indoor play area all were good.
There was some free activities i.e football training, swimming lessons.
All the other activities had to be booked and paid for around £5 each, the kids did Aqua Gliding, Aqua Jets, Water walking. I was happy to pay for them as it not somthing they can normally do.
The only downsides i found were.... Had to walk thru the arcade the get anywhere on the complex, In the club was a shop right next to the stage selling nothing but expensive light sabres £7.50 each and sugary sweets!! These arnt a problem if your kids dont whinge but my lol (ds neice nephew) couldnt resist the lure and whinged constantly.
In the club they sold huge Yard size cups for kids £4 then 2.25 for refils one cup will last the night and you wash the cup and use it all holiday.
There was a pizza parlour that would even deliver to your caravan.
There were 1 seater 2 and 4 seater bikes you could hire by the hour, and trampolines and a fair.
If you are disaplined and use the free stuff it can be a cheap holiday. If you do want to do any of the activities, get the leaflet when you collect your keys, go staright to the booking point, ours was the pool and book asap as it gets booked very quickly.
Hope you enjoy you holiday, and even if things arnt brilliant just make the best of it, kids dont notice much around them as long as they can have a good time!
For adults there was rope walking, absailing, wall climbing ect.
I think a 3 yr old will love it, swimming indor ball pits, swings outside ect
  • We've been to a few and always enjoyed them.
if you've not booked yet, try www.haven.com/phc I've had some REALLY good deals through that before although recently they've been the same as throught their normal site. Still, you never know.

If you were fine with a Pontins break then you will be perfectly happy with Haven... our family love Haven and we have always found them cheapish and cheerful... like others we tend to use them as a base but the caravans are usually clean and of good standard of course some people will have a different experience but we always had a great time and we've been about a dozen times over the years...

We've been several times, and always had a ball. Started going when Kiddo was 5, and last went last year, she was 12 and took a couple of mates with her. We've always found the staff to be very helpful, and if we've ever had a problem it's been sorted quickly. I agree with the poster who said about the shop in the club room; we've always felt that it's unfair on parents to have so much stuff around for the kids to 'whinge' for. We're not going this year cos of a family christening abroad which will cost a fair bit, but I'm hoping to go with The Sun next year!

weve just came back from a great holiday at haven. we stayed at weymouth bay and loved it despite the heavy rain we had. our caraven was of great standard with a breakfast bar and veranda which we wern't expecting.

    we have stayed at:
seaview - but wasnt too keen as its very hilly
burnham-on-sea - lovely place but not alot to do off-site
devon cliffs - lovely place, town nearby

ONEBUSYBEE, if you go up that way again try Primrose Valley, it is the flagship park and one of their swimming pools is the one used in the TV ads.

We have been to Reighton Sands once, Primrose Valley about 5 times, every time we have been to Haven we have had a great time. Kids loved it, and great for a MSE holiday as IMO you can spend as much or as little as you want while you are there. Free swimming pool and evening entertainment, beach, etc. I am taking my son in May and we can't wait.
It is only a bargain if you need it!

    As promised.

Just got back from Combe Haven Holiday Park.

The park is very Hilly, we were about halfway down, the paths are all quite steep, so if you have some trouble getting about make sure you make them aware as there are some caravans where this would not be a major problem.

The "complex" containing the mash and barrel "pub". the live lounge (main entertain venue, Burger King, Papa John's Pizza and the arcade was again very clean and tidy, however there is only 1 set of toilets for the whole area, so can be a bit of a trek. But they were always clean and never crowded.

The swimming pool was ok, though not very big. Having said that, we spent a few hours in there.

Generally, there was nothing to really complain about at all.

If I wanted to be picky, the pool tables were not in the best condition, there is nothing for teens to do (other than swimming) that will not drain the coffers.
