If a seller specifies paying in 24 hours on listing, should you?

Agree about the rude message. I don't think anyone is forgetting this is ebay. If you rely on it totally for your sales, then you have to stick by their rules. I know how costly it is to have a retail business, and am happy to pay the fees. I also am aware that those fees are the only thing keeping the place running. Anyone get the impression ebay is grateful for your business?
It has been a 99% positive experience for me, as most folk are good folk.
But looking at some posts, we seem to be looking for trivial complaints. Someone was moaning about getting a free gift with their purchase recently.
As for gratitude, I don't require it as a buyer or a seller. Courtesy and respect is enough for me. This buyer didn't get that, and should give feedback accordingly.

Sellers who put arbitrary demands on their auctions make themselves look foolish imho. If the buyer chooses to pay a few days after the auction ends that is their choice. Bidding and never paying is a different matter of course.

A favour means doing something without reward, an act of generosity. So unless your buyers don't really want your item and are just trying to help you out - no, they are not doing you a favour. It's a business transaction.

We can't keep items reserved for more than 3 days after the auction ending and will be resold elsewhere : In the old-fashioned terms of fair play, if you pay fast you get your item fast. We can give you a call on your ebay phone number soon to check that everythings ok too.

Non-paying bidder warning are issued automatically by our system within 4 days so please let us tick you off the list and get your item to you super quick.

I realise that not everyone logs in everyday so don't worry just shoot us a message.

Just Let us know!

If I received that after 24 hours from a seller your communication DSR would be slammed. Threats of NPB cases and reselling the goods (which is what this is veiled as ) just make you look silly. I know I have 4 days to pay (7 really if I wait untill the end of a dispute). Ebay rules over rule any silly T&Cs. If I received this email I would be more likely to delay payment. There's nothing more annoying than sellers who don't understand ebay processes and are just plain rude.

I pay for most items within 24 hours unless i've sniped and am away it could take a couple of days. fair enough an email requesting payment after 4 days any sooner you look like your harassing the buye are more likely to annoy the buyer so your FB DSRs will reflect this and they are unlikely to be return customers

It seems a bit rum to me that you can specify immediate payment but not 24 hours. It also seems a bit rum that the poster would have time to read an email, but then no time to pay for the purchase.
I think a lot of these posts are fictional.

I am by no means bound to explain myself, but I will. I put in an early bid on an item, a good few hours before the listing ended, say for arguments sake Tues, the listing finished weds morning, and it was then thursday lunchtime (just a few hours after the 24 hours since the listing ended) that I was able to get online to check, so yes, then of course I read the email first, before I paid. fly away...

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I thought it was 7 day ruling, so will remember now for next time. I have had some recent buyers that have just left paying till I file a npb dispute, which I have always done on the 7th day and its very annoying if I've sold say 30 items, and I'm waiting for the last few...

Actually, thinking about it, I did bid on an bin with a "24 hour" rule. It also said to wait for an invoice if you bought multiple items, as postage would be reduced, or to ask in advance.
So, before bidding I asked what postage would be. I got a curt email, saying it was on the webpage, and I should look more carefully.
(it was actually there, but not as obvious as the part where it said to ask).
I still did a bin, as the items were half the price of the next listing, and they couldn't really mess them up. I got the invoice about 18 hours later, and I must admit, (even though I pride myself on paying instantly) waited a couple of days.
Fair play though, they came by first class mail the next day.

further to a thread I posted a week or so back... I was wanting to purchase an item and was going to be away when it finished.. I mailed the sellar and explained I was going to be away when it ended and wouldnt be able to pay straight away... The seller was real cool about it.... was first time i have not paid imeditatly for an item.

No it doesn't.
Immediate payment does, but that means it's not yours until you pay.

There is no such option as 24 hour payment.
