UltraCheap wrote:I took a few printed coupons to Waitrose (the new London Bloomsbury store) and I was soooooooo embarrassed. The sales assistant questioned the coupons, and then said very loudly that I had not purchased any of the items, then asked if the coupons had been photo copied (my printer is a high-end b/w laser printer), THEN the guy behind me asked why it was taking so long, AND the sales assistant started to tell him the details of my transaction!!! I very quietly asked her if she was familiar with the Waitrose coupon policy and I told her that I had a copy of the policy in my bag – an email from Waitrose customer service explaining the policy, but she proceeded to shout that I hadn’t purchased the products and she would need to speak to a supervisor. By this point, the queue had grown, so there were a few more people to witness this sales assistant completely humiliate me. THREE sales assistants came over to ask what was going on, the humiliation continued. Finally, I said that I didn't want to buy the things and I walked away, only to have her shouting behind me - so that more people could hear - how I had inconvenienced her and that now she would have to void the few items at her register....
This was a few weeks ago and I haven't been back since, not sure if I will ever go back there.
Why do these sales assistants think it is ok to publicly humiliate people? Some kind of power trip? Where is the customer service?
I came across a stash of coupons today (for the new Gillette Fusion razor, valued at £2 each) and went back to my local Waitrose to give it another try. This time, I checked first to see if they had the product, but they didn't. Then I went to customer service to see when they were going to get the product in (they had the matching shave cream, so it was very likely that they would also carry the razor). CS was able to check with the manager who said that it would be in stock on the September 23rd, and in the meantime - I could use the coupons! I pulled out my email from Waitrose customer service and clarified with the manager that I could use the coupons to buy something different, and I could use as many of them as I had... He reviewed the email, and as he was already familiar with the coupon policy, agreed that I would be ok to do this.
So, found a few things, went to the till, the SA was not familiar with the policy at all and had to ask another SA, and then they said that they were going to have to check with the manager, so I brought out the email again and said that I had already confirmed with the manager that they carried the product, and they happily ran the coupons through. I paid 70p and purchased £10 of groceries.
This was a much better experience than last time when I had coupons printed from the internet.I :heart2: Waitrose0 -

Im out of coupons - i usually save £25 of them and take them into Waitrose. Sometimes the SA doesn't know the policy so i tell them i emailed head office and they just accept them!
Also, I spent £10 in Asda and used a £2 coupon so thats 20%.
Didn't try tesco in the week as SA was watching over Self Scan and I didn't have any coupons.
Sainsbury's and Morrisons will not accept any without buying it for me though.0 -

Can you spill the beans on where you came across this stash of coupons (or do you mean you found them at home?). I'm dying to know if they are out there in Superdrug or Boots, etc., which sometimes oblige with nice high-value coupons which scan at Tesco!!
Tell all please UltraCheap! :TPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Oh yes, sorry, I went past Superdrug today on Oxford Street where they were promoting the new Gillette Fusion razor and giving out coupons (exp 4 September 2006) for £2 off the new razor. The razor's are advertised at all of the Superdrug locations. There are no limitations on the t&c's limiting where the coupon can be used. They had a stack of the coupons at Oxford Street, so perhaps they are doing this at other locations?I :heart2: Waitrose0 -
I've been bad:o
Had a look at the sainsburys rules this week and apparently I should only accept coupons for items that have been purchased. Still think it's more fun to take lots of coupons from the friendly customers though.......maybe I'll just keep on till they tell me off;)Smokefree since 27-9-20070 -
I'm running very low on vouchers too, after the hassle with my local store I go to different ones who will take what I pass them. If it wasn't for my quick read vouchers at £1.00 a throw I would only save pennies.

I've never heard of quick read vouchers, what are they? Sound like my kind of thing, I buy a new book nearly every week!

Hello pol, it was this thread which I started:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=181584&highlight=quick+read+vouchers
It was to promote quick read books and they send money off vouchers, pens, pencils etc. As they sent me 1,000 vouchers I have used some of them instead as money off my shopping at Tescos (each voucher is worth £1.00 and valid until 31/12/06)
