Fantastic TFG - job well done!
I am so envious, but will use your success as inspiration. It can be done! Our target date is Sept 2008. My latest calculation suggested we will get there five months ahead of that if we carry on paying as we are at present, though I'm not sure what the interest rate rise will do to the numbers.0 -
WELL DONE!!! Ive still got a long way to go, but one day i will join you and be mortgage free!!!!!0

May I add my congratulations, too?
FG, you have got such willpower and determination. Your children will surely be watching you and learning from your sensible ways.
I have a feeling that you won't be rushing out to spend the "extra" money you will have each month, but using it for your family's long-term benefit! ("The Grand Purpose" as you aptly call it in your other thread)
Like you, we have a large(ish) family. We're trying to clear our mortage ASAP so that we can prepare to help our four children onto the property ladder. With house prices the way they are these days it's hard to imagine how they will afford to buy a home.
Well done!"By not unsettling men, you will reassure them. By unsettling men either through timidity or malice, you are always compelled to keep a knife in hand." - Niccolo Machiavelli, 1469-15270 -
Exactly
Now thinking about the grand purpose
Just had a holiday with the kids, but was camping
Had a great time, did a couple of big treats (Theme Park, Longleat) but other days were on the beach which were equally good fun
The fuirst few months will be into ISAs and then it is a question of where to start putting it
I do not believe that more property is a good idea right now, so I guess it will be a mixture of savings, index tracker and maybe, some individual share holdings (although I will be taking that route very slowly)
And to think, I could have bought a Porsche Boxter instead0 -
Brilliant - good for you!!
Really pleased for you FG, can't wait to be in the same MF boat!!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Congratulations! The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

That is a great achievement it would have been so easy just to buy a nice car. I have just about 8 years left of my mortage and had planed to overpay by another £250 once my car loan is paid off (offset against main mortgage). However seeing your post makes me think I should go for £500 as that is what I am currently paying towards the car loan. Well doneSave £12k in 25 No 49

Question: why does the redemption have to be done by CHAPS at a cost of £25 whereas there is enough time for a BACS payment which could be timed to arrive to the same day?0
