short version - requested £50 from co-op ATM. Card retained - £220 debited - tried ATM dispute route - declined. At the time I highlighted my concern with Fraud dept over fact that full available balance had been withdrawn - however, bank are not cooperating in any way to assist me. Do I have a right to having my cash back?
Give us the longer version. If you ask for £50 at an ATM it will not debit your account with £220.

There's either more to the story or there is no story.

Don't some of the scamming gadgets sometimes cause the card to get stuck?. Prehaps this is what could have happened, the card scammers remove there gadget with the info and use the card info in the same machine soon after?.

I once had a Tesco ATM reboot during a transaction and I was charged for a withdrawal that didn't happen. I did get my card out the machine, it hadn't dispensed the cash, but the withdrawal was shown on my account.

Ended up having to fill in a form to confirm that I didn't get the money and my account was creditted back. They claimed they had to do a physical check of the notes in the machine, whether they ever did or not I doubt.

Spoke to someone who worked at NCR in Dundee and they confirmed that note counters were ancient tech, so wasn't worried about not getting the money back.

So mistakes do happen with these things.

    But it is the truth

As for the cash, the bank will have a clear audit trail on the ATM, times amounts, some even take snap shot of the smiley face that the time, how can money have been taken when the card was retained?

The ATM will clearly show a £220 surplus when reported.

But the withdrawal that showed on your account will have been the one you requested. Even if the cash didn't dispense, the ATM didn't somehow manage to debit your account with a completely different amount to the one you keyed.

On more than one occasion I have been involved in a manual cash count of the ATM to ensure that customers got their refunds (or didn't, if they were lying!).
So mistakes do happen with these things.
Machines can indeed make mistakes. But not the kind of mistake the OP describes.

I really don't think there is much danger of Danny's spelling being perfect. The excitement of having somebody respond to one of his useless posts will probably be too much and he will be concentrating on other things.
