Oh, that reminds me - I used to run a little bootlegging industry when at school (I looked older than my years) as all my peers had much more money than me. Raked in about £100/week, until I was caught...
Which incidentally probably colours my view on prohibition and drugs. Booze was illegal, it was commonplace, providing it was an easy way to make some cash.0 -
Funny this.
Lots of school holiday work.
Warehouse.
Post office parcels at Christmas
Bouncer ( not my scene, did 2 nights )
Carpet salesman
But playing in a band, now that was different. Started at 16 in the 60`s. I think we were the the first Berkshire Tamla Motown in history. A 3 piece brass section! That was something. " Aint too proud to beg " brothers and sisters. To say nothing of " I feel good ", did a bit of soul as well.
That was my second job for decades. Tbh, in the early 70`s my day time job paid about £24 a week. Yet I " sold out " and played in hotel/ social club bands. " That`s why the lady is a tramp ". Hey but 2 nights would drag in £12 a week at least.
I kept that second job up for years. Thankfully leaving the " I had the last waltz with you " brigade to be able to make a bit of an income from what I really loved. Jazz, R and B ( not the stuff that they call it now ) and reggae.
Still have been known to get the old organ out and do the very odd gig. Now this is the stuff I love to play

That's an interesting one. Who employed you to do that and how did it actually work?
It was many years ago and I was a temp for a well known consumer organisation. We wanted to assess whether lonely hearts columns were good value for money, so got a whole load of different envelopes from Paperchase and sent questionnaires in handwritten envelopes to all their PO boxes. We had to change our writing on each. Unfortunately we got rumbled quite quickly because sending an envelope to every lonely heart quadrupled their postbags.
However we were able to establish that pensioners got more replies than people with odd sexual proclivities advertising in Time Out.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I agree wholeheartedly. I would go further - force the idle yobs to do community service if they don't find jobs.0 -

Great stuff. 1965 was it? Seemed that " The Cat " brought him to fame. I think it was the year when I saw him support Dizzy Gillespie @ The Odeon in Hammersmith.
Being me, I hung around the stage door and got meet them both. Bit sad but a good memory.0 -

N.B. DD has a friend at uni who comes from Amsterdam who feels safe and comfortable to walk home across that city at midnight. Who would in many parts of London or any other large town or city here?
Are the Dutch NEETS perhaps working in Canal Strasse.:pIn case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0
