  • I've regularly saved extra cash using ICELAND saving stamps, as they offer £1 free after 29 stamps (£30) and another £1 free after 48 stamps (value £50) - offering the equivalent of a 4% discount. There is also no restrictions on when you can cash in - so buy just before you shop!!

ICELAND also accept High Street Gift Vouchers, often obtainable at a discount through various schemes.
  • The idea is totally sound, one thing not mentioned though. Some of the Stores only issue the savings cards for their "real" stamps during certain times of the year. usually jan - March. So if you see the cards in store now grab a few while you can

I live in a town of just 2 supermarkets, and a Somerfield has just recently opened on the site of one - they have a similar scheme to the one outlined above, but with £1 after £29 as long as it is done by 28th April, and £2 when you get to £48 if you redeem between 10th Nov and 31st Dec.

My question is this - can the cards be redeemed at any time? And if so - is there anything to stop you going to the checkout with a card, buying £29 of stamps and then paying with your £30 card there and then? (before 29th April) to save £1 on your shopping every trip?

Normally they can only be redeemed in December - otherwise they'd be like a perpetual motion machine! I thought that this was mentioned in the original article.

    Hi

I work in Iceland and we have a customer that comes in every week goes to the checkout, asks the operator to change £50 into £1 coins, fills a book of stamps up, then buys her weekly shop. To save all the change going into the stamp machine I normally get the keys and count out the £50 in stamps for her and take the cash.

The store is happy as we are told to sell as many stamps as we can, obviously I dont think Iceland want it done like this as its more for retaining customers during the peak Xmas period but there are no rules or limits against this

So assume you buy £50 of shopping per week and follow the above thats saving £104 on food a year.

And with all the Multibuys and Linksaves we do, you cant lose. Us staff also get a 10% discount so it aint to bad. :j

    Happy Shopping

We have had a Lloyds TSB Trustcard Plus credit card for quite number of years and have accumulated loads of loyalty points. Well in excess of 10,000, actually.

Trustcard Plus holders received 1 point per £10 spent, and these points can be redeemed for a variety of items.

One of the best items to buy and also to redeeem points with on the credit card are Store Vouchers. We actually use the Trustcard Plus card to purchase the store vouchers from Trustcard Plus themselves.

I just cannot believe how utterly fantastic this voucher deal is!

We actually enjoy a 10% Discount on them and we think it's amazing!

We are buying our store vouchers on credit on a Lloyds TSB Trustcard Plus credit card to shop with and we enjoy '10% off' the price of the following stores' gift vouchers:

    Boots
    Homebase
    John Lewis
    Waitrose
    B & Q
    W H Smith
    National Garden Gift Vouchers
    Dixons
    Ticketmaster
    Argos
    Woolworths
    Debenhams
    House of Fraser
    HMV
    BHS
    'Enjoy yourself' Leisure vouchers

We need to redeem 1 Trustcard point for each pound spent on them. So if we buy, for example, £100 worth of Waitrose vouchers, they cost us £90 and a redemption of 100 Trustcard points.

For a bit of a giggle we each went into our local Waitrose, bought a bottle of water at the cafeteria, produced a £10 voucher, then took in excess of £9 in hard cash change from spending the voucher, and then went to sit down to drink it and have a read of the free newspaper.

A cracking good deal or wot?

    hehehehe

    :)

If I understand this correctly, this means that:
    100 points = £10 hence 1 point = £0.1
Trustcard Plus holders received 1 point per £10 spent, and these points can be redeemed for a variety of items.
Hence, £0.1 per £10 spent, that is equivalent to 1% cashback - and not exactly in 'hard cash' but in vouchers (good vouchers though).
A cracking good deal or wot?
I am sorry to disapoint you, but I don't see anything cracking. Some credit cards pay 1% cashback in 'hard cash'. With your spending (10,000 points is equivalent of £100K spent) you can have almost 2% cashback with Amex Platinum - in 'hard cash' without any trouble with vouchers.

    Best Cashback Credit Cards article.

BTW the following vouchers are available with 5% discount (£100 for £95) without any points: M&S, Sainsbury's, John Lewise, Choice (acceptable in dosens of high-street shops), Dixons, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Boots, Arcadia, Argos, Bhs, HMV, Homebase, Kingfisher, Leisure, Littlewoods, WHSmith. This is my secret though;) , don't ask. I buy these vouchers with 1% cashback card and effectively have 6% discount in Sainsbury's (including petrol) and other shops: Woolworth, B&Q, Homebase, Farmfoods, ...
