I am just about to change my cash back card so this article was well timed. As someone who buys a lot of petrol I was looking at the Texaco card which offers 0.8% cashback as you have detailed but it also offers 1.6%(double cashback) on all purchases made at Texaco garages.
Based on the £15,000 a year spend with £4K on petrol that would increase the return on this card to £152 a year if my sums are correct.
Additionally if you used the Texaco loyalty card We. OU you would also rack up at least £40's worth of rewards on the £4K spend, probably more as they do run promotions from time to time.
Cheers

The AOL Credit Card gives points on spending that can be redeemed against your AOL subscription. But you also get points for balance transfers and that can make it very lucrative for those who want to take advantage of their 0% for 6 month offer. If you can avoid the handling fee for the first couple of transfers, you could build up a nice bank of points.0

There was an article about this very point (credit card loyalty schemes) in the Evening Standard tonight. Unfortunatly only saw the headline, which talked about a survery done on the schemes. Does anyone else know anything more about this?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Yes the article was based on a press release I sent out for this site today and the tables on this website ;DMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Nic - check out what the Shell card does for you first!I've just done the same exercise & puting all my business spending through shell.
It gives £10 worth of points as soon as you use it & the rewards = Texaco.
You'll also find more Shell sites than Texaco & get one near a supermarket & they probably price match, too!
So you'll be buying better quality fuel at discount!
& you'll also be able to start using Shell Optimax, if you run on petrol, too!

Hi Martin:
Thanks for this - it's all great stuff.
I'm still getting 1% cashback on my Cap One Circle rebate (I check my statement each month).
I remember you saying it was to be reduced to 0.5% for all accounts, but it hasn't happened to me yet.
Can you tell me anything more about this?
Thank you

. Effectively "you've been lucky" (as have i
)
So stay schtum and enjoy!

Hi Martin
Thanks for your article on rewards. You confirmed what I already knew - Tesco is the best!
We are of on a weeks holiday to Rome and Naples on Sunday - paid for entirely with Clubcard points (£1875)! We have also been to Dublin on the points and used them to puy car breakdown insurance / magazine subscriptions and days out.
My trick is to use my Tesco credit card for everthing I would normally write a cheque for or pay by switch and then pay it off at the end of the month in full - so no interest either! However, I never get cash on the card!
The other point is Neverspend your points in Tescos when you can multiply them by 4 if you trade them in for one of their offers.0 -
Hello
Great article. I believe my Abbey Cashback card pays 1% if i spend more than £500 in any given month on all my spend not just that over £500. Am I right?
I am also intrigued by the BAA worldwide card... but cannot find it anywhere ? any links?
cheers
