    This is all rubbish.

It's THEIR responsibility to check the code at the time the order is processed. Lets be honest here. In most cases their goods are ridicously overpriced.

If I was running Littlewoods, I would ensure that any new accounts are checked to see what addresses are already currently registered and whether or any discount codes valid.

As already mentioned, the fact that advertise codes in local and national press makes the whole thing idiotic really.

yes but is that the law?. i mean i no nothing about that sort if stuff. i always though it was if order was accepted and dispatched we have agreement on price so they can not tun around and say no as its sort of a binding contact is that true?

Even if you pay with debit card i think they still open up a account, on your invoice it should say an account number

They told me on the phone the code wasn't meant for me, yet it was on Quidco. Full of !!!! they are. Cancelled the order due to credit even though paid on debit card.

What circumstances are prompting people to be contacted?

If the codes are on some sites (for examply MyVoucher, Quidco etc) specifically stated for new customers, and you are new, then you should be entitled to use them, so shouldn't be an issue (and many sites are reporting codes that appeared in adverts in Metro, on Natwest credit card website etc, so not person specific).

I am surprised to see the comment in #30 above about a code on Quidco as they only publish codes that have come through their affiliate marketing agency and as they run exclusives for Very and other Shop Direct brands, I don't think Shop Direct can claim that they are not authorised - they pay them (or rather their affiliate marketing agent does - and many brands have been removed when the brand has decided that they don't want their brand on/want to pay commission through cashback sites, so again they are in control). It is good to see that they cancelled the order though as this implies that they do check before sending? (sorry you were caught though robrymond, as you seem to have been picked on unnecessarily!).

If you have a Very account, and set up one on Littlewoods using a specific Littlewoods code for new customers, you are again entitled, I believe, as you are not a customer of Very and are new to Littlewoods.

If Mrs Anon also sets up an account at Very, then again, I don't see this as an issue as she is new to Very (and it doesn't say only one account per household, as some companies do, like casinos).

If, however, you set up a new second account with Very for yourself using another email address to be a new customer again, then I think you are probably pushing your luck as you are not a new customer, just using a different email address?

There are also some issues where, for example, you can use the same code on Very, Littlewoods, Woolworths etc as I have read somewhere that someone had used a code on Woolworths and were pulled up as it was meant to be only used on Very - now I am not an IT specialist, but I can see that it cannot be too difficult to stop a Very code being used on Woolworths as they control whether the system recognises it as one of their's or not (even if it is too difficult to stop a code meant for a specific customer - though Tesco's and others manage it!). They must also/could do a final check before processing and despatching your order, as robrymond found out.

I believe, despite their T&Cs, that if they despatch your order and take payment/refund the voucher, then it is at that point that the contract is made and price agreed.

I have had a scoot around on the internet and it appears to me that there is a lot of urban legend about mass clampdowns, with information from 2007/8 when Littlewoods decided to do this, but I cannot see much since then apart from people warning of the dangers? And if they are still having problems/making threats etc, I cannot believe an organisation of their size still cannot get their act together and sort their systems after 3 years - they keep opening new stores (Very, Woolworths etc) so obviously have someone working on the IT system!

And if the punishment at the moment is you won't be able to use unauthorised codes again, then that seems fair enough (I have the goods and have the discount now, so not likely to use again anyway, well not this account!).
