A new warning on very & littlewoods coses

Hi all,

just got off the phone with very's fraud team.

Be aware they are now activley looking at accounts that use voucher codes.

They are flagging up accounts who have used codes not issued to them.

I know this has been said before, but as they are now specifically going after people since the change to their website and how codes are validated.

Be careful out there, they just 'got' me and suspended my account. They gave me an "education" chat and told me if I use anymore that are not issued to me, they will close my account. They are loosing 100's of thousands apparently.

I have only used the odd one, so it's not based on how many you use.

Just be aware, they are suspending accounts

Then 'very' and 'littlewoods' should stop putting adverts in the newspapers, most frequently 'Metro', if they don't want people to use them.

As long as you know the original source of the voucher code and it's legitimate for you to use it, I don't know what the issue is.

I would assume they hope that people who use 'new customer' codes will become continued customers.

However, 'very' and 'littlewoods' have a legitimate right to crack down on people who are using codes that are not assigned to them (althoguh you'd think you wouldn't be able to submit them - after all, on Tesco you can't!!)

Not that difficult to stop codes being used if not issued surely , other sites manage it quite well

I think its the £ ones they have a problem with and not the % ones
  • Hi, I never used a £ off, they were always %.

I dont have an issue with Shop Direct Group not wanting people to use codes, but lets face it, they dont do themselves any favours.

1-Some codes are in the wild anyway for all to use - How are you supposed to know which are which?

2-Some codes work on one account and not on another, so they DO have the functionality to be selective on what codes work on what account.

3-If a code works, based on the above, it should be valid on your account and ok to use.

4-I have spent more money with them then i would have done otherwise, if i cut into their profits by 10% - they have still made a huge amount.

5-They pass me over to their "fraud" department? Come on, is using a voucher code commiting fraud? No, possibly breaking T&C's of your account, but thats far from "Committing fruad"

6-I would think that hose T&C's cannot be legally enforced anyway, as soon as the order's accepted thats the point a contract is formed. Those T&C's could be challenged under unfair contract law - but lets face it, who's going to do that? (thats just my thought's no basis in fact)

To be honest, the more i think about it, the more im mad. I have given them £1000's of my money most of the time never touching a code, and then when i do use one im comitting fraud?

How do i choose to vote? With my feet! I'll never buy another item from them again.
  • What I meant to say at point 6, was that when goods are sent and they have charged you for the item. Not when the orders accepted.

Rubbish phone, cannot even edit a post :-(
  • I think the likes of very, marshall ward etc know exactly what their doing with these codes.

Bleating about some apparent misuse is crocodile tears imo.

There are very simple and efficient systems that other business's use which eliminate fraud with money off codes and the likes of shop direct can very easily implement them if they choose.

I've noticed recently that Asda actually put say a free delivery voucher in your account thus eliminating anyone else using it. The reference code by it cannot be used again.

    Simples really.

    Thanks for the warning.

The Fraud department? Who do they think they are!

In my opinion they can get stuffed!

I always find Very is very expensive anyway; the stuff is just about worth it if you have a discount code otherwise I find the prices are too high.

I'm joining the (probably lengthening as we speak) queue of definate avoiders.

Hello. :) I have 3 accounts with Shop Direct and I do like them for buying some things. But can you tell me how often you would say you use a code. Is it on every other order?

I probably get a code once a month from them, maybe on my statement or a mail. Sometimes is just buy now pay later or £10 off your next order.

But how can their computer system know which code has been assisgned, because they have SO many codes running at one time. Just check !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for an example of how many codes are on the go.

The point I was making was, if they identify an account has a code going though with every order, then that may be easy to spot.

I am hoping I will get a 20% off your next order as I need a new mattress but nothing so far!
