Well of course they have passed your details on.

They will have to keep your details for a period of at least 6 years, so now that the other company CC Asset management have taken over, they will be the data controllers.

    Nothing to worry about :)

My interest rate is going from 16.9 to 20.9.
Got a small balance which I will settle in full and then close the account I think.

Can't see no real reason to keep this card going?

Re trying to close a Citi card account. As posted elsewhere on the forum, at the end of January they substantially cut my credit limit and rate jacked me, so I cleared the debt on the card (I paid in full on a monthly basis) and once it had cleared I phoned the call centre on 4/2/10 to close my account.

I was told that my account would be closed and a confirmation letter sent. Here we are, two months later, no letter received and I can still access my account on-line so I assume that it hasn’t been closed. A letter to close the account was sent last week, so we’ll see if that moves things along.

Interestingly, this is the first time that I have ever closed an account and they haven’t made any attempt whatsoever to try to retain me………. well, aside from saying yes, yes and then not closing the account. :)

As a follow up to my post above, like a number of people, I too received the letter stating the change of ownership in the past week, which I assumed was in response to my letter, however yesterday I received a letter confirming that my account had been closed on 5th Feb i.e. the day after I made my original telephone request.

Oddly, I can still access my account on-line and there are still statements generated for 18th Feb, 18th Mar and 16th Apr, none of which state that the account is closed / inactive etc.

Perhaps there is a time lag for instructions to go through the Citi systems, but this has been the oddest account closure I have personally experienced – No interest in retaining me (for reasons as discussed widely on this forum), no immediate letter confirming closure, statements still coming three months later. Usually it is a chat with someone in retentions, some form of offer made, then when I politely refuse the account is shut down and I am on my way to ‘tart’ somewhere else.
  • Hi folks; new to here but I detest Citi; I had a balance of £3500 and was just paying minimum payments; I then managed to come into funds and cleared account however it cost me nearer £3900 to do this. I have asked for the account to be closed and for them to return my over payment of £8 and a letter confirming closure but alas nothing and I note my credit file has not been updated for 2 months. I really cant stand this mob; when I was in difficulties they would phone me at my work all through the day and at home in the evenings which caused no end of embarassment to me at work and upset at home. I accept there are terms and conditions to an account but CITI bullied, harassed and had no internal communications whatsoever; I always made my minimum payments (couldnt afford anymore) but was a few days late when I had to either feed the kids of pay CITI, chose the family obviously but I did phone them and say I would be late by a few days. The penalties and charges were ridiculous. Anyways they owe me now and I cant get account closure. B~~~~~ds!

Had a Shell Mastercard, which Citibank decided to withdraw and replace with their Citi platinum card.

That was a !!!! up, pins not recognised, a new card sent, lots of phone calls to indian call centre to get them to sort out their problems.

Got the same letter as everybody else saying they are transferring my card again to the new outfit.

No chance,i always pay balance in full and will not have any more dealings with this shower.

This months bill just arrived, so once its paid i'm off to a decent company!
  • I too had the Shell Mastercard which was a good deal when i got it 6% cashback for 3 months then 3% cashback on shell fuel with an ok interest rate. Lasted about 12 months before they started cutting the cashback and transfered it to a Citi Platinum card.
I too got the letter saying they were selling my account to CCAM then a subsequant letter telling me they were increasing the interest rate from 15.7% to 20.4% (That is a whopping 30ish% increase at a time when base rates are at unprecidented low levels)
I rang them to let them know I thought there rate hike was unjustified and gave them the option to reconsider or i would be closing the account, I got the distinct impression from the call center operator that they actually did not want to retain my custom, strange really as now the cashback has gone they have started making money off me I usually pay the minimum 1 month then clear the account every other month after I have claimed and recieved my petrol expenses from work so I allways pay some interest on everything i spend.

A week or so later I tried to close the account, I got an account settlement figure and agreed to pay this over the phone and close the account, they debited the amount there and then with a payment from my debit card, and cancelled my minimum payment direct debit mandate I was not convinced they had calculated the final interest payment correctly but as it was only about three pounds more than my calculation on a nine hundred balance I agreed to pay but asked that they send me a final statement detailing exactly how this was calculated and what interest rates had been applied on which dates and confirming the account was now settled and closed.

WARNING TO ANYONE WITH A LARGE BALANCE - CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS AND INTEREST RATE CAREFULLY
this bank seems to have problems with basic numeracy and when you phone them to sort it out they seem to have problems understanding very basic requests they are also quite rude as well constantly insisting they are correct and refusing to deal with any concearns even though the documents they have sent contradict what they say when you call them.

Today I have recieved a normall statement saying I owe them 33 pence and the account dosnt seem to be closed the paper statement says my credit limit is 4000, credit available is nill, and balance is 33 pence oweing, online it contradicts this saying available credit is 3999.
The paper statement also says that the estimated interest for next month is £1.42 that would be some APR on a 33 pence balance in one month.
I phoned them to sort it out and got nowere the person i spoke to seemed to be clueless or just acting gawmless to get me off the phone.
I will be finding out who ccam's finance director is and sending him registered delivery a cheque for 33 pence and a letter demanding a full explination and a bill for wasting my time.
Obviously these amounts are piddaling and not a problem at all as far as i am concearned I just want them to close the account and remove the available credit from my file so i can go elsewere and get a better deal.
I have just wrote this as a warning for anyone struggling with a large balance to check there statments closely as incompetance and arrogance seem to be there modus operandi.

MY ADVICE FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR AN ALTERNATIVE PROVIDER.

someone on this thread mentioned that the poor customer service they had got from the call center at CITI CARDS was about all they expected from any bank call center with operators reading from scripts and unable to deal correctly with anything out of the ordinary.

I Can Heartily recommend 2 banks that i deal with, who have consistantly given excellent customer service and dealt with issues quickley efficiently and importantly given me the confidence that they know what they are doing and are able to sort complex problems out.

    1. Co-Operative bank credit card account.

I have had a Co-Op credit card for about 20 years, very simple and easy online servicing and a UK call center staffed by banking professionals if you need to call them. I had allways had a card from them which donated a small amount to my choosen charity every time i used it, They recently had to change this arrangment as that charity had gone out of existance (merged with a bigger charity that the Co-Op were for some reason not able to deal with.) The Co-Op wrote to me explaining the situation and sugested changing the donation to a panel of charities that the Co-Op dealt with.
I phoned them up on there standard call center number to say that I was not happy with that arrangment as these were not my supported charrities.
I spoke with a really good bloke based at the Co-Op in Manchester he was not able to offer a card that supported my favoured charity but he got me a differant card with a 5 year fixed interest rate of 9.9% on everything purchases, cash, transfers the lot this was less than half the interest rate i had been paying on my charity card,
He anticipated any potential problems with transfering between the cards and advised me to keep the old card open untill i had recieved the new card so that he would be able to transfer the balance at an introductory rate and ensure my 10,000 credit limit was also transfered to the new card.
he gave me his name and a direct phone number that got through to him directly rather than the general queue and said to phone him directly once i had the new card so that he could do all this for me, which he did the moment i rang him back.

    2. First Direct Bank.

Got a great Tracker mortgage deal from first direct a couple of years ago but had to switch my current account to them as part of the deal as its also an offset mortgage I was a little sceptical as i had been a customer at lloyds for over 20 years, I have been blown over by the proffesionalism of every person i have dealt with at first direct from day one, like the Co-Op its a UK Call center and when you call you feel like you are dealing with a banking profesional If somone dosnt know somthing, they find out, and they phone you back when they say they will. If they need to pass it on to a more appropriate person e.g. an ISA specialist or somthing they call you back anyway and give you the details of the person dealing with the issue and when they will call.

    BARCLAY CARD.
I have never dealt with them so cant recomend on there customer service one way or the other, but I was looking around for a replacment for the CITI Card and there freedom rewards caught my eye. I was wandering around there Web site and they have a great feature on there if you want to find out how likley you are to be accepted for there differant card offerings without getting a credit search placed on your credit report Basically you put in your details and it does an administerative search it states on the site that this search will give an accurate prediction of your likleyhood of being accepted but will not affect any decisions on your getting credit which a full search can do if you have too many recent credit searchs on file. It actually says that the administerative search wont even be visable to other banks.
Basically you choose the card you are interested in do the search and it gives you a % chance of acceptance for that card and any others that have a greater chance of aceppted are also listed with there chances. For example mine came back with 80 to 90% chance of being accepted for the Platinum with 0% on purchases for 10 months (the one i had searched on) but also listed another of there cards that it said I had a 90%+ chance of being accepted for.

I was just about to apply online when i read the thing about rewards being earnable but not cashable at shell at the presant time, so the rewards are no use to me as I would be using the card purely for my works petrol expenses.

Cant really be bothered with airmiles and amex cards.
Might look at the LEEDS Building society 0.5% cashback card instead

    anyone got any other sugestions.

    Best Regards
hope my ramblings are usefull to someone.

I paid my remaining balance last night-they have never made any money out of interest on me.

Now do I wait for them to send me new card out (at their expense and then cancel :p) - Although not sure if they will be sending re branded cards out or not.

or just cancel the shower of ***** now?!
