I am in the process of returning my card. Great when it used to be the Associates but I am not doing business with a sub prime lender.0

Has anyone tried to close their Citibank credit card account as a result of this news? I called them today (be sure to use 020 7477 2645 not the 0870 number) and after 3 calls finally establishing there is a difference between my account number and my card number, they were unable to close my card. It has a balance of £0 (originally used for easyJet flight offers). They stated it was an 'interest bearing account' and could not be closed until after the next statement date - which is 7th May. Despite repeatedly telling the bloke in the Indian call centre that there was no balance therefore could not be any interest, he kept repeating the same statement about bearing interest. Unable to get through to anyone who could just do the simple thing of closing the account, left feeling quite frustrated. Wonder if calling in to Citibank on the Strand will yield a better result.....

Re trying to close a Citi card account. As posted elsewhere on the forum, at the end of January they substantially cut my credit limit and rate jacked me, so I cleared the debt on the card (I paid in full on a monthly basis) and once it had cleared I phoned the call centre on 4/2/10 to close my account.
I was told that my account would be closed and a confirmation letter sent. Here we are, two months later, no letter received and I can still access my account on-line so I assume that it hasn’t been closed. A letter to close the account was sent last week, so we’ll see if that moves things along.
Interestingly, this is the first time that I have ever closed an account and they haven’t made any attempt whatsoever to try to retain me………. well, aside from saying yes, yes and then not closing the account.0 -
Another letter today following on from the initial CCAM letter last month.
This time it's a rate hike to 24.9% because of blah blah blah blah blah.
I'm at 5.9% LOB so not particularly bothered as I'll never use the card again but for those worried it does say in the frequently asked questions :
Will my introductory or promotional terms be affected by these changes?
No. But once that promotional offer comes to an end, any balances you have remaining will revert to the rate we've told you about in this letter.
I will watch the statement like a hawk though.0 -
I got a letter today inviting me to apply to the NEW American Airlines partner, MBNA! My citi was originally AA and then this was removed in December, got the new card and that's now dead - hmmmmm - no wonder American Airlines (AAdvantage) pulled the plug on their Citi & RBS partnerships, they probably wanted their brand to be protected - BUT then they go and partner that pile of !!!!!! over at MBNA!!
Beggars belief, it really does!2010 - year of the troll

I have had a MBNA card for a few years now. My interest rate on purchases is about 12%. I am always receiving promotional offers and my latest one 0% for 9 months.
In my experience I would rate them as one of the best.0 -

Exactly the same thing happened to me last night, I spent over an hour on the phone yet they are insisting i have to wait for my statement on the 29th of April. When I asked why they said i had to pay the interest due and a settlement fee yet my account is £0! Just felt like I was going round and round in circles. At the end the man asked my why I was leaving citi cards and when I said it was because of their extortionate rate jacking and poor customer service he said it wasn't their fault because someone else owned them now.
I'm concerned about this settlement figure though....0 -
I too received this letter not long after Citi reduced by credit limit to 2,020 (where do they get these figures!) and yesterday got the rate jacked up to 31%!! Thankfully, will clear this card this pay day and will be closing. Problem is both my cards have done this (Capital One being the other) and am feeling a little scared at having NO credit card.0

I agree about being nervous about having no card, they didnt jack my Cap One card but it only has a £300 limit, it would appear they have us by the you know whats if for whatever reason you cant get a card elsewhere:(.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
I spent last year clearing my credit card debt with Citi and on January 1st my balance was zero. Hurrah! Received written confirmation that my account was closed last month.
Had a similar letter to others this morning from Citi. Salient points:
We can confirm your account is closed.
Your account has a zero balance, so no further action by you is required.
However ... We have recently announced an agreement to transfer the ownership of some of our Citi Credit Card accounts, including your account, to CC Asset Management Limited (CCAM).
We could also like to make you aware that CCAM is now responsible (as data controller) for your personal information contained in the records relating to your account.
So even though I don't have an account with Citi any more, they've gone and sold my details on. Grrrrrrrr. (OK, I'm a bit paranoid about these sort of things.)0
