Well he sounds like an eminently sensible young lad to me Luc-although if he had asked a mate to nip home and tell you what had happened would you have flown into a panic?Sounds like he dealt with the situ pretty well...

My Mum doesnt in particular but because of the amount of placement hours she needed she basically had to take anything that she was offered.

    Its good all round experience.

i'm hoping to get another placement in june, when the organisation does an intake.

do you really want to know.......mmmmmmm

I had the surgery were they scrape the cornea back instead of slicing the cornea..(I can't remember what they are called now but it depends on the thickness of your cornea) the slicing one is the one when you recover quicker...the other one took me about two weeks to get over. First night was like having red hot pokers in my eyes.....and couldn't focus for a couple of weeks. I could drive  but couldn't work cos I couldn't see to read.

I was told that my short sightedness would probably develop into long sightedness and sure enough I now need glasses for reading which takes some getting used to.

I also suffer from dry eyes which is why I couldn't use contact lenses. My eyes are even drier now and I still need drops....

I haven't regretted it but I wish I had been a bit more prepared for the pain and discomfort for a couple of weeks. The other surgery is a piece of cake i believe.

You're probably right, I probably don't want to know! I think I am getting the one where they slice off rather than lifting a flap. They are leaving one eye marginally short sighted which should buy me about 5 years on wearing glasses for close work. Good job I'm not working but thanks for the advice, I shall plan with that in mind.

Just been to pick up DS2 (aged 14) and he has been to hospital to get a nasty split in his head glued on his own:eek:

He said that he couldnt get a signal and as the hospital was within walking distance he just went with his friends. He then went back out on his skateboard until I have only just picked him up.

    I feel sick:(

I thought A&E would try to contact you!!!! that's scary!

I wish they had done that with my eyes....

The one you are having is the one where you recover quicker...you should be okay in 24 hours tbh! I had to have bandage lenses on my eyes for two weeks....

And yes Lou they slice your eyes.....and your eyes are wide open while they do it.....but you don't feel a thing...:rotfl::D
