Norton Antivirus renewal costing a fortune?!!

Well, £20 actually. I used Norton Antivirus on my old computer and each year it would just cost me a few pounds to renew it. I was always very happy with the product so bought Norton again when I got my new computer last year. I have now come up to renewal time and have discovered it will cost me £19.99 to renew it. Does anyone know why there has been such a price rise?

Cos Norton are money grabbers. Plenty free alternatives about that out-shine Norton products completely.
Norton & McFee are the biggest advertisers (TV/Newspapers/Bundled with P.C's), therefore they hit the biggest number of users, and because of the lack of competition they can prolly get away with increased prices.0 -
Because more and more people are realising that Norton is really really poor antivirus software with low detection rates and high resource requirements. I'd strongly advise you to check out ESET NOD32 which is continually proven to be the most effective antivirus software on the market.

I think Norton is simply becoming more commercial for business rather than home use.
I would advise you download https://www.free-av.com and use AdAware on your computer every now and then. This will do the same job as Norton and is free.
If you have a firewall as well however, you may need to download a free firewall software as well. Once again though, all free.
And does exactly the same job [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

It may be cheaper buying a new version of the software with subscription included (especially if it's OEM). My dad came up to renewing his McAfee Security and it was going to cost about £20 or £25. I bought him the full new version (OEM) for about £5 from scan."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I use McAfee Enterprise for free and has been great also.

Have you checked to see if your ISP has any offers? - I know BT do on some of their broadband packages & NTL give a very good free package for all broadband subscribers. Whatever you choose, make sure Norton is uninstalled correctly & completely - any remnants can cause conflicts.0

Does norton still make a fast P.C into a sluggish P.C? And add about 4 weeks to the boot time?0

I got my antivirus free from the university I'm registered with, may be your workplace (or university) will have similar licensing."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I use:
AVG Free anti Virus,
Agnitum Outpost 1.0 - Firewall,
Ad Aware (Spyware, Trojan etc.)
and Microsoft Defender
there is on online virus scanner at trend-micro
http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp
i use to double check that my system has not picked anything up
and a page at dsl reports
http://www.dslreports.com/scan/
which will check that your firewall is working properly
and I have yet to encounter any problems with viruses etc. (touch wood)
I don't see any need to continually pay for updates. You may have to mix and match components from several suppliers but you should arrive at a system which is as secure if not more secure than a single supplier solution.
I know PC Pro recommend that you have several different spyware and anti-viruses installed which is all very well if a) the co-operate with each other and b) don't grind your pc down to a snails pace.
I would pay a reasonable amount for a security suite but it's the continual drip drip which annoys me.0
