Isn't it odd that people's opinions differ so much? I found the post from samizdat (to which you refer) absolutely fascinating, well-thought out and well presented.

What could be a good idea for companies like Ryanair is to offer you the chance of a "credit note" should you wish to cancel additional items such as hold luggage and priority boarding you have originally paid for. By having this as an option on their websites right up until maybe 3 days prior to travel, they would be creating "future clients" by way of using the credit note against another flight.

Totally ethical and helps anyone who is having a change of mind for whatever reason. However at the moment they appear blinkered in their vision and pursuit of taking cash and that is the end of it! A simple solution which I feel they should look at.

We all make mistakes and errors and sometimes look back and think "why did I do that"!!! A little thought and imagination from companies could help to rectify some situations without loss for them.
