RYANAIR, wont pay my baggage costs back to me.

Hello

Can anyone give me any advice.
I have recently booked a flight with Ryanair and I'm not travelling for two weeks. At the time of booking I paid for our luggage allowance which is £30 per person. After booking I realised you can take ten kilos of hand luggage. I have called Ryanair and told them I will no longer be taking luggage only hand luggage. Ryainair have told me I am not entitled to have my money back even though I am now travelling with only hand luggage. This seems crazy, why would I pay for luggage I'm not taking???

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I can't see anything on their booking conditions which states you can't have a refund.

Is there anywhere in t and c that says you can have a refund ?

The £30 was an optional payment and you opted to pay it. Apart from appealing to their better nature (impossible cause they dont have one) not a lot you can do

I don't think any airline would refund you for paying for hold baggage and then deciding not to use it. You might as well take hold luggage now you've paid for it. It would also give you the chance to bring back cheap booze if you wanted to.

This tip is of no use to you, but.....if you do want to take hold luggage with Ryanair it is best not to add it at the time of booking. Add it as an addition a day or two before travelling. That way if you can't fly you lose only the cost of the passenger air ticket.
  • think your onto a loser here. About as much chance as them giving you excess baggage at the online pre booked price if you hadnt booked it and then needed to use it. Remember there pretty strict on baggage dimensions.

If you booked a ticket then decided you didn't want to fly, would you expect a refund? They have made their sale, got their money, and that's all they care about. Sorry.

It's quite simple, you made a purchase, you changed your mind, why should they refund you ?
If you walked into a shop, brought a TV and then took it back for no good reason other than you changed your mind the shopkeeper would be under no legal obligation to refund or exchange the item for you, just as Ryanair aren't.
  • Thanks for your replies. Guess thats what you get for booking budget airlines. Never used them before. Wont use them again. Just seems they sell cheap seats then sting you on everything else. The price went up lots from the initial £5 each way. I do understand I paid for excess bagage, a bit different from buying something from a shop though. Thanks again for yur feedback

You did not pay for excess baggage, you paid to put a bag in the hold. You chose, you decided and somehow it is now Ryanairs fault because you made that decision

I agree with the replies you've had.

I just can't understand why you say you'd never use budget airlines again.

Most budget airlines state their additional charges clearly - they don't 'sting' you.
You haven't been scammed, ripped-off, conned, duped, tricked - or any other emotive inaccurate derscription.
You chose to pay, you changed your mind.

You really should have read the info on the website before booking - it does clearly tell you that you can tale 10kgs of hand luggage - free of charge.

Re the price increasing from the £5 - fees are clearly stated.
    You just didn't check.

And nobody forced you to actually book the seats once you were given the final price. Did they?
why would I pay for luggage I'm not taking???

But you DID pay for luggage you thought you wanted to take.
    Now you've changed your mind.

Budget airlines can be great if you play by their rules - but you need to make sure you understand how each company works.
