hmmm. Ive been looking for a docking station in the kitchen for my ipod/iphone, the solution could be this streaming from my macbook in the living room. The added bonus of the radio stations probably makes it worth the £50 for me.
scotch that...it doesnt support itunes.0 -
Well, I would be seriously considering one of these if it had the one single feature which, though most useful, appears to be missing - a web browser.
At the moment I have been using a Nokia N800 'web tablet' and found it immensely useful. It has Wi-Fi, a web browser and a four-inch screen and is always with e when I travel. This Joggler device fro O2 would, it seems, make an handy 'upgrade' with its seven-inch screen - if only it had a web browser built in.
Perhaps, does anybody happen to know, is there a browser available for it ? I am thinking that if it is running a version of the Linux operating system then perhaps Opera ?Kepla0 -
If it runs Linux then Firefox should work on it. There's also many other Linux browsers that are fully W3C compliant (Internet Explorer isn't by the way). W3C being the internet standards body that all browsers aspire to keep to.
However, if it is an embedded operating system then it may well have a proprietary way of installing software

Several sites are reporting that this can be hacked to run ubuntu, but lets be honest as a standalone internet radio with weather, traffic, news, sport and a digital photo frame its well worth £50 alone.0

Yes, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of. It seems that most of these 'tablet' type of devices use a processor which is way below a normal PC in performance due to the small battery inside them. I was thinking that Firefox migt be a bt too much for such a small device, while Opera is much 'lighter' and is available in a very small 'mobile' version if required.
My Nokia N800 runs a version of Linux which makes it very flexible and easy to set up to do whatever I want (within reason). It would be interesting to find out more about the technical details of the O2 Joggler as the facility of a proper web browser is the 'make or break' issue for me. With a browser, the Joggler's 7-inch screen would be a useful increase over the N800's 4-inch one.Kepla0 -

Kepla, as it appears to be mains-powered only, the Joggler may not be too useful for you on your travels...
Got to say, I was tempted at £50, but I suspect the reason they are being sold off so cheaply is because they suffer from flaws...all the reviews seem to say nice hardware, shame about the software.
EDIT: as an internet radio, does anyone know if it uses the reciva firmware, or are you limited to the advertised 100 pre-set "pure" stations? Can it play shoutcast streams?

As regards the radio, it streams from PURE.0 -
Yes, I guess it could find quite a use with those feature - perhaps in the kitchen ? In my case, as I already have digital photo frames and radios it just wouldn't be worth having for those features, but I can imagine that some people might want one on that basis. Given that digital photo frames with a similar screen start in the twenty-odd pounds region anyway, and internet radios for not much more than that, then fifty quid seems like a fair price for it.pulliptears wrote: »Several sites are reporting that this can be hacked to run ubuntu, but lets be honest as a standalone internet radio with weather, traffic, news, sport and a digital photo frame its well worth £50 alone.Kepla0 -
