It's shocking that they think rushing a piece of legislation through like this is acceptable.
If this little care is taken making the law then why should I respect it?

Eagerly waiting for the next company to be embarrassed by something uploaded to Wikileaks to get it banned using the DEB. Whoooo, freedom of speech! Oh, and you can kiss bye bye to free WiFi at your local coffee shop.

But hey, at least the record industry is happy, right?
No amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party - Nye Bevan

The really shameful part of all this is that there were only about 15 MPs present during the debate. Just before the vote was called, about 200 appeared and voted.

    That is not democracy.

In my opinion, only those present for a debate should be allowed to vote.

Just turning up and voting as directed by a party whip makes a mockery of the system. Why have a debate at all if that's our interpretation of democracy?

    From the Daily Telegraph today.
Sweden?s internet traffic took a dramatic 30 per cent dip as the country?s new anti-file sharing law came into effect. Before this, Sweden, the home of the Pirate Bay, had been a hotbed of illegal trade in movies and music.
But several months later traffic levels started to surpass the old levels. Consultancy firm Mediavision found that the accessing of illegally shared movies, TV shows and music simply recovered. But there was one crucial difference. Much of the internet traffic was now encrypted.
In other words, the very laws the entertainment industries had lobbied politicians to pass in order to protect their industry had created the even bigger headache of untraceable file sharing.

    From the Guardian discussion.

Why do so many expect other peoples fruits for free?
Can I pop round to thiers and help myself to some chatels?
No, ok then, instead can they come and toil away on my garden - for free of course - it's a 2 way street.:rotfl:

Doubt they will be for long, as this will just heighten the publics awareness of methods that can avoid detection.

The very little success they have in combating the issue will be eroded even further thanks to this.

    They are very short sighted.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
    [/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

The bill will mean that anyone accessing the internet has to provide ID, you will not be able to access wifi in a bar, cafe, shopping centre, train etc unless you can do so.
The bill gives the government the authority to block acces to any Web site they want, just like they have done with the National Enquirer site to prevent UK citizens getting information about Iraq.
The bill gives organisations like Sony the right to get an ISP to cut off a subscribers connection without going through a court.

None of the above has anything to do with getting "other peoples fruits for free"

It will not stop people sharing magazines, newspapers, computer games, music or movies. People will do it they way they did it before the Internet, simply by copying to a disc and passing it hand to hand, or through the post.

Some compare this to stealing property or labour e.g. "Can I pop round to thiers and help myself to some chatels? No, ok then, instead can they come and toil away on my garden - for free of course - it's a 2 way street." - it is not the same.

It is essentially the same as tape recording the top 20 off the radio.
