ps tried to phone, they say no go systems down

Bad luck. Please try again later because you DO need to know when your O% deal expires.
    PO job over phone best?

In almost 10 years of shuffling credit cards, I've not come across many card companies that will process an application and carry out a balance transfer in much less than 14 days. So, yes. I don't think you'll find one that's quicker at present.

If your statement does not give the date on which your introductory 0% ends, why not phone up customer services and ask? The number to ring will be on the reverse of your statement.

called them there and they said it ended on the 25/07/06

What would be my best move from here, go ahead and apply to do the transfer to PO and just have to pay the BOS an interest charge

The best thing to do now, is to pay off the balance!

If you can't find the money, then yes. Apply for the PO card.

This time round, record the date that its 0% introductory rate ends in your diary or on your calendar or tie a knot in your handkerchief. Whatever works for you. Otherwise, in 6 months time, you'll find yourself in the same position.

In theory paying off balance would be ideal but its around 4k I dont want to/cant afford if you know what I mean.

Would rather buy myself some more time and at a cost of approx £39 interest, that cant be too bad, can it?

In future the best thing to do is transfer your balance a month before, so if getting 9 months interest free, start the ball rolling about 7-8 months in, that about right?

Yes. If you want to sleep at night, it's best to apply at least a month before you need to pay off the old card.

    Very best

Whats your views on the Egg card at the top of the list.

They sound as if they can make things happen fast by advertising no paperwork.

However what do they mean by anniversry offer on balance transfers for upto 5 months in Aug 2007 and Aug 2008?

They seem to charge 2.5% though, thought they were all free down to Nationwide in that list.

    Thanks

    gogsboy,

You're pretty limited with your choice of card (from the top half of the table on the stoozing site). The only real chance for you is the Post Office card if you want to go fee-free. This is because...
    • Many of the other cards are also run by HBoS and you'll not be able to BT to them.
    • Stroud & Swindon is run by Co-op and they are introducing fees at the moment I believe.
    • The Asda card is short duration and there's a high APR at the end of the 0% intro period.
If you care to look at the bottom table you'll see that there are still a good few cards around which cap the fees at £30/50.

Re the Egg card...the one at the top of the table is the Egg Money card. This doesn't have a 0% period. The Egg Card is towards the bottom of the bottom table because it has a 2.5% BT fee. This is the one with the anniversary offer.

The Virgin card might be worth looking at. It's a 2% uncapped BT fee at the moment, but rumour has it this will change to 3% (max £75) from September. The one advantage it does have is that it's 12 months 0% (but only 3 months on purchases so don't make any!).

I don't know if this helps but I've been transtering my debt now for about 4 years and paid very little interest ( I got caught out once by a Halifax card).

I started out with about a £2000 debt and now only owe about £460 and as I've said only paid one months interest!

As have been mentioned above, I found that the Post Office card to be the best option at present with 6 months interest free and no balalance transfer charge.

I aplied online and got an instant decision there and then, got the paperwork in a few days later, I have sent it off and now I'm waiting for my new card with my balance transrered. My current card is a TSB PLATINUM which the interest free period runs out next month.

All my D I Y in the house has been financed this way. The golden rule is once you transfer NEVER USE THE CARD AGAIN!! Just make at least the minimum payment or more if you can afford to bring the balance down faster.
