Tax Credits stopped

Has any one been able to actually get through to tax credits yet today? Went from a joint claim to a single claim nearly 3 weeks ago - Had my letter to say joint claims been stopped, but nothing about my new single claim.

Taking the mick now!! Before me and ex broke up we was getting £194 a week - They worked out i should get £225 a week but that they needed to stop payments - yeah ok i get that bit - but im relying on that money (i know i shouldnt be but i have £40 in the bank and thought it would be sorted by now!!)

Grrrr - Is it worth me getting on at them or will that just do jack?

I just got through as I had to make some changes for this yrs tax yr. I made the adjustments fine but couldn;t give end of yr figures as I had planned to do. They told me it would take up to 4 weeks for my new payments to change but they would continue paying the lower amount until it was sorted.

Worth perservering with them, took me 20 mins on hold!

I'm sorry to tell you this, but when I went from a joint claim to a single claim it took about 8 weeks before I received any tax credits at all! I had to borrow money to pay my kid's nursery fees. They did back date it though.

I gave up with trying to get through to them today, tried so many times.

Went into town and popped into the enquiry center, they got me to try again using their phones and saw that I wasnt making it up that I couldnt get through. Managed to see someone there and fingers crossed my single claim should be sorted out in the next few days.
  • I am obviously not pleased for your problems but am pleased that this has been posted as i had a question last week regarding going from a joint to single claim and said i was going to hang fire before advising tax credit as i was due a payment within a week and knew it would be stopped and i would then have to wait for how ever long it took for my new payment to come through and had 2 children to feed, look after etc
I was surprised that people that say they had been in the same situation felt it necessary to have a dig that i shouldnt be holding off for a week despite me giving the reasons for this ,which i thought would have been understood by other mothers..... This massive wait for new claim payment is exacley the reason i wanted to wait!!!!I hope you (like me) manage to get everything sorted quickly

People probably were advising you to not to hold off as you may have had to pay some of the money back as it would have been an overpayment as you have to give an exact date of your cirucmstances changing, so if your partner left a week or two before they would have to take that into account and then reduce or alter your other payments. I think that will be why people had a "dig", it's just they were trying to make it as simple as possible for you.
  • urgh!! ok its 3 weeks today that i told them in my change of circumstances - I now have £12 in the bank!! Ex hasnt given me any money for maintenance (he hasnt got any spare this month!) and now tax credits are saying that they "have sent a letter" - Well CAN YOU TELL ME WHATS ON THIS LETTER?? "no madam, sorry"

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I dont officially need any cash to buy anything just yet as got food / elec / gas etc but COME ON!! (sorry for rant! x)

Blinking Tax Credits Lot, just had a lecture for using the wrong number and please could i only use the 0845 numbers as i would be cut off another time.....said i couldn't really afford those numbers to which i got the reply well you could write to us so i asked for an email address as I can use the computer better than i can manage to write with this illness and I didn't want to go through the hassle of having to print off a letter every time something alters...Oh we don't do emails was the response...get your partner to write a letter. Been ringing that number for the last 4 months and never once received such a lecture, apparently it's only for overseas peeps...

I told her not to bother giving me the address in the end just couldn't be bothered after having that lecture thrown at me...honesty doesn't pay sometimes...
