I have just made a menu plan using all the food I have stored so I can defrost the freezer prior to moving. I made a list of what I had in then made meals from this list crossing off as I went. As I went along I could see what I needed to buy to complete the meals so I was able to make shopping lists for each week. Good luck.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

could anyone help me by listing their monthly meal plan as an idea what to have.Do you just write down teas, or b/fast, lunch boxes, teas and puds.then do you write your shopping list from that. or shop then write your meal plan
trying to get organised once more!
thank you T0 -
Personally we have some repetition within the 4 weeks but this is due to me making the most of batch cooking. There is only myself and DS and as he goes to nursery 3 days he doesnt always want a 'proper' meal afterwards. Also I make the most of any 'whoopsies' that I see and build my meal plan around this. Once a month or so I look through the cupboards and freezer and adapt my plan to use up what I have and I also bake snacks/cakes according to whats in the cupboard
Ok so here goes (last week was actually the start of the 4 week plan so I will start with it first)

I have a certain type of food each day of each week as I find it easier to plan out if I have a structure
Monday I use leftovers from Sunday.
Tueday is veggie, should be meatfree monday but I'd rather use the leftovers! Veggie to try to have more balanced, healthy diet and also often cheaper especailly as its usually pulse based.
Mince Day uses a Mince Base where I get a big pack of mince and slow cook with lentils, soya mince, onions, carrots, stock and herbs. When this is cooked I freeze into portions big enough to serve myself, OH and 2 small girls. These are then turned into lasgane, spag bol, cottage pie, mince pie etc. I recently got 5 days worth from £4 pack of mince. I find this a very economical, easy and successful (the kids lap it up!) way of cooking.
Thursday (Busy afterschool day) I have a hot meal waiting for us when we get in.
Friday sometimes I like to cook a seperate meal for the kids to myself & OH, usually have stirfry as they aren't keen on that.
Monday Leftovers
Tuesday Veggie
Wednesday Mince
Thursday Slow Cooker
Friday Kids/Adults
Saturday Treat
Sunday Roast
This is the my plan for September. Over the summer my mealplanning goes out the window as we often change things depending on the weather (OH is addicted to BBQs!) so I tend to fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants! I've actually looked forward to doing this months meal planning as we need to rein in the food spending and I like to have a plan to know what to do. I have very little imagination when it comes to cooking, tell me what to make and I'll come up with a great meal but the inspiration to decide what to cook escapes me, without a menu plan we would eat pasta everyday!!!
I'm not very good at getting whoopsies in the supermarket so I plan and then buy according to that. I often do a stocktake of whats in the freezer and then use those items up first and then plan around them.
Tuesday 31 Chickpea curry
Wednesday 1 Chilli & Rice
Thursday 2 Beef Casserole
Friday 3 FF & Smiles/Beef Stir Fry
Saturday 4 HM Pizza
Sunday 5 Roast Chicken Dinner
Monday 6 Leftovers Fritatta
Tuesday 7 JP Cheese & Beans
Wednesday 8 Lasagne
Thursday 9 Pork Casserole
Friday 10 Salmon fishcakes & veg
Saturday 11 Light Meatballs & pasta
Sunday 12 Roast Beef Dinner
Monday 13 Beef Curry & Rice
Tuesday 14 Lentil Burgers & Chips
Wednesday 15 Mediterranean Mince Pie
Thursday 16 Lamb Casserole
Friday 17 Chicken Tortillas
Saturday 18 Salmon Pasta
Sunday 19 Roast Gammon Dinner
Monday 20 Mediterranean Potato & Vegetable bake
Tuesday 21 Chickpea burgers with Mashed potato
Wednesday 22 Cottage Pie
Thursday 23 Chicken Casserole
Friday 24 Pasta with peas, Ham & Eggs
Saturday 25 Light Macaroni Cheese with veg
Sunday 26 Roast Lamb Dinner
Hope that helps, some of the titles are recipes from magazines, books or online. Lunches aren't included but usually soup for me packed lunch for everyone else.0 -
Hi
I generally have a look what is in cupboards and freezer first. Make a list of meals I can make with the contents (or meals I have frozen from batch cooking), then look for meals that fill in the gaps and write a 'big shop' shopping list off that. Then I re-visit once a week and tweek if necessary - then make a weekly shopping list from the week's plan.
Remember that social plans change, so factor in events, activities or appointments that might affect your choices.
Good luck and hope this helps.
