  • Depends hat they are - meaty sort of scraps can be frozen and used as toppings for JP's or lunches ... veg I use for bubble and squeak ... mash potato I use to make tuna fishcakes... gravy I just reheat and serve up again :o Some veg gets served again next day ... pastry scraps are for jam tarts ... pie filling scraps I use as a pasta sauce ...

I just think 'what can I do with that?' makes for some dodgy stuff sometimes but it does help x

    HTH a bit

I just give DS less than I think he will eat, he can get more if he wants it, and if not it can be somehow used another day/later!
I need some ideas to use up leek, other than soup ?

Put leek in a chicken and leek pie?
Add to cream and onions for pasta sauce?

that's all my ideas! I'm pretty limited to pies and pasta x

Mmmmm.......Macaroni cheese with a paprika and sugar puffs topping :D(that my children insisted I buy and then refused to eat).

Only joking, though. It's a lovely idea, just maybe without the sugar puffs

How about going all veggie for the month, Ellie? Might save you a fair bit of money.

OrkneyStar, how about a ham and leek gratin?

Thanks for the leek ideas- we had it with chicken earlier in the week and it was lovely- in a creamy sauce with saute potatoes and salad, but sounds nice with ham-- I have some whoopsied ham in the freezer so leek and ham in a creamy sauce with cabbage may go on next weeks meal plan :).
Pasta sauce is a nice idea too :).

:rotfl: we only have weetabix (well Tesco value fake ones!) so just assume that everyone else does too!

Im trying to tackle this one meal at a time and i have to admit im getting bogged down. I've made a list of whats in the freezer and i've counted the days in the calender between now and when i next get paid.

There are 34 full days, 24 of them are week days and 10 are weekend days.

Im very much a buy as i need type shopper so i've never planned like this before. I need breakfasts for 4 for all 34 days, both my kids are big eaters as they are very active so how much cereal do you think we will need?

we currently have half a box of porridge but im the only one who likes it, i think it should last about 10 - 12 days so i think 1 more box will should last the month.

Actual cereal i have 2 x 500g boxes but i don't tend monitor how much the clan eat or even think about how long they last a just buy more when they tell me it's low? what do you think?? how many more boxes and anyone know a good one to buy thats cheap?

Am i over thinking this? i just want to do one big shop tommorrow and have everthing i need for the full month bar a few perishables.
  • well you will need 136 portions of which ever cereals you choose for that time period for 4 of you, i would weigh up what cereal you would get most out of and cheapest.
i would probably go for weetabix (supermarket own, say 2 weetabix each, set portion size :D )
or large boxes of cornflakes / rice crispies
i think you will probably use 1-2 boxes a week

  • Tesco have a few of their own brand cereals on 2 for £2 I think.
