  • As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing monthly meal plan thread, so that Norman's plan can easily be found again :j

ooh blueberry muffins ... anyone got a recipe?? i'd need to buy flour but thats not a biggy because i was planning on buying some anyway so i could make some cakes for lunch boxes.

This one is foolproof and other fruit can be substituted. I have tried it using raspberries and hildaberries. Also omitted white choc and was still good (though not AS good:rotfl:).

Thank you Penelope Penguin for bringing this brillant thread to our attention. :T Have been reading it avidly at my desk (in between doing some work). Hope to pick up some tips as I really need to get my grocery spending down.

  • i just did a month's menu plan - inspired by what was already in the cupboards, freezer and fridge.

then i made a shopping list of what groceries were still needed, plus household stuff - i've cut down the shopping cost by a third!

i've decided to add more rice to all the stir fries and curries i make - then have leftovers for the fridge or freezer, i might cut down even more :-)
Boyfriend & I have saved £12K in two years, thanks to careful budgeting and keeping a record of what we spend. I've never paid myself this amount of money before - it feels great!

I have a caveman for an OH, soup is not a meal nor is anything without meat.

i've got lentils and beans to pad out a few of the meat dishes and loads of veg, but he complains like a big baby about how it makes everything bland and mushy, even though i don't think it does. he's much of a veg person, i think if he was to cook for himself he'd live off burger and chips, and sausage buttys his 5 a day would become 0 a day. if you give him something like beans on toast a meal, he'll ask where dinner is as to him thats just a snack.

Me too - I am the caveman :o. No wonder my food budget is so high.
My solution: Frozen pork chop, frozen fish and frozen chicken thighs, occasionally lamb chops, fresh fish or beef stew as treats.

Hon, GET THYSELF TO SOMERFIELD. They are doing mexican stuff this month on their offers and I got Fajita sauce for 19p yesterday!!! They also have tortillas for 41p for 6 and enchilida and chilli sauce for 80p a jar. The fajita sauce and wraps will do with your chicken/veggie chicken and the other bits you can use with your mince/veggie mince. Thay also have loo roll at 12 rolls for £2.25 and you can never have too many of those!!! Sorry to be thick but is it 2 kids with one being a veggie or 3 kids?

  • Can anyone offer me any tips on monthly meal planning? I do my food shopping once a month following a meal plan but I still seem to end up in the supermarket every few days topping up on bits and pieces. Also if anyone has a monthly meal plan they would like to share I would appreciate it we seem to always be eating the same things here thanks for any advice
