NLID - i know the problems with turbolister. 9 times out of 10 theres a missing picture on my listings. I am going to test the water up here with opening up a well sell your stuff on ebay shop. This forum is giving me so much and im thankful to everyone for helping get my creative juices flowing. i went in today to view a tiny shop (i dont think it would be right to get people to come to my house as it doesnt look professional) and managed to negioate with the landlord a 3 month free lease. need to get my business plan together and head to the bank. My bank manager said last time when looking at a £1 shop idea that he hasnt seen anyone as determined or having many ideas as me. This is all down to you all:j:jDribbling my way to financial success:j:j

for those not yet a member of the dribbling to 10k facebook group this is the link. the original group got deleted when cally left and had been a public group. This is one that Em had set up to be a closed group and so I think you need to request to join. can't remember exactly how it works though. anyway if you do request it may be worth saying who you are on mse so she knows to approve you.
if that doesn't work I guess it might be by invite but I really don't remember it being.

Hey Jo, just read your question re South Beach and Slimming World. This may be an essay but I'll try to give you my experiences.
I have a weight at which I start to struggle to fit my clothes and then I lose weight. The first time I hit it, probably 7 or so years ago I did SW as a friend did it and lost a load of weight. I love(d) potatoes, rice and pasta, and am not a big meat eater, so I did mostly the green days (this was when there was just red and green and not all these new things they have brought in). I lost nearly 2 stone, which was great.
However, continuing to eat mostly green day stuff for several years to maintain my weight I gradually got more and more tired, until last July time I had got to the stage when I was tired all the time, getting hungry even when I had just eaten, and on the verge of tears all the time as I just felt so ILL. Not ill like specific ill, just I couldn't remember the last time I'd felt really well iykwim.
I read a bit about nutrition and stuff and moved onto insulin resistance/prediabetes and adrenal fatigue and a lot of it sounded like me. In fact I answered a questionnaire and every single adrenal fatigue question I answered "yes" to.
I then looked at treating adrenal fatigue with a better diet and it said limit fruit, eat lots of lean meat, lots of vegetables, drink lots of water, plenty of low fat dairy and have no white carbs at all. I started trying to eat this way and someone said it sounded like SB to her so I read the SB book. A lot of the stuff about insulin resistance really struck a chord with me and the book says that 1/4 of adults are prediabetic, which is scary!
Anyway, I did the SB diet for a while and within 2-3 weeks I had energy again and stuck to it for about 4 or 5 months and felt great. Weight loss is pretty slow on it, but it was coming off gradually. Then bad stuff started creeping back in and on holiday I ate a load of bad stuff and I'm feeling the tiredness coming back, so I really need to sort it again.
What I like about SB over SW is that it doesn't use processed stuff (SW seemed to use a lot of packet rice things and packet pasta things which are really awful and full of chemical rubbish). You also get a daily allowance of good oils (encouraged to use olive oil, sesame oil etc. rather than those spray can things) and good fats (daily allowance of nuts/nut butters on top of your other stuff, rather than instead like in SW) and at least a pint a day of low fat milk/yogurt. Also low fat cheese is treated as a protein, not dairy, so within reason you can eat plenty of cheese.
Also because you reintroduce fruit and grain gradually after the first fortnight which is very restricted, you get to see how your body reacts to different things. I can eat bananas with no bad reactions, but if I have an apple I have to have cheese or peanut butter or something with it (protein) as otherwise it sets off sweet cravings.
On SB you are encouraged to have a square or two of dark chocolate a day for the beneficial chemicals and also a glass of wine but only with a meal as having it on its own tends to trigger snacking.
It really focusses on getting your body chemistry right and then figures that weight loss will follow from that, rather than losing weight at the cost of further jiggering your body chemistry, if you get me.
Much prefer SB - I feel way better on it, but like I say weight loss is slower.0 -
Thanks 2cats thats really interesting. was very put off the slimmimg world stuff when I saw the packet pasta stuff. as I said my diet is far from perfect but would hope a healthy eating weight loss plan would try to move people away from that or give a real food recipe with the option to substitute the packet stuff. not really looking for a plan as such just some new recipes to inspire me but it interested me when you said about SB being healthier. does the book have recipes in or did you join for that bit.
like the good fats and nut butters and stuff. might look a bit further. don't usually like to follow one thing in most areas of my life but take the bits that make sense to me and use them.
Thanks so much for the essay it was really helpful
