Hi Cagne,
thats really interesting. Don't think I covered that as I was just sort of responding from a lay person point of view about stuff NLID posted and what thoughts occurred to me. nice angle.
I got my first job that way. well it helped I think.
I was asked (as a newly qualified radiographer applying for a job at a different hospital to my training one) what my weaknesses were and I answered theatre radiography as my training hospital only had a small operating department and I hadn't had much experience. which I then followed up by saying it was one reason i'd like to work there as they had a big operating department and radiographers spent time there on a regular basis and undertook a wide range of procedures. I hoped it would help me gain experience and become proficient in that area.
I hadn't prepared for that question and one comment I have had as interview feedback over the years has been that people don't mind my pauses while I think about the question cos it shows I am really thinking about it and not just reeling off answers. also I do use my hands and get quite animated which i was always taught not too. but thats me and it comes accross as being genuine and interested and passionate.
I have always done well in interviews but I have never tried to be anything other than me. I wouldn't want to get a job other than on that basis.
I went for a job as a mental health advocacy worker. we were interviewd by service users as well as the organisation.
I was quite open with all that I didn't know the mental health act or the ins and outs of service provision but that I was committed to advocacy and had great skills for it and that I would be committed to learning the rest.Pointing out that part of advocacy is not knowing the answers but empowering your clients to learn how to find answers. often learning together.
I got the job even though many candidates knew mental health stuff inside out.
How insecure would I have been if I'd tried to cram the mental health act and got the job based on my perceived knowledge of it.
same with the cafe job. told them staright out I had no experience but showed them how my skills could be seen as transferable. that showed them i had thought about and understood their job description and some of how a cafe works and how I could fit into that.
Don't know the point of this but might be useful.

I've been reading some of your posts and your chat with Jo yesterday.
I've also been lucky enough to have a sneak preview of one of my marketing bosses new books about successful marketing tips. I'm only part way through it but saw this tip and thought of you.
By touting your weakness, you can improve your trustworthiness, and
ensure that when you talk about your positives, you’re more readily
believed.
If you link your weaknesses to benefits, you will also be seen as more
trustworthy. For example: We can only take up to ten trainees on each
course, but that means you’ll get more one-to-one time with the trainer.
Your already quite aware of what your weaknesses are so I guess from this tip it's basically saying see if you can turn them into positives for your potential customers.
Not sure how that would work with your own business plans etc but then that's where your knowledge comes in.
Something like 'I'm happy to admit I'm not a salesman and the hardest part for me is trying to close a sale and ask people for their money but luckily for my clients, and my business, they see their purchase as a long term investment and appreciate the future ROI on their initial outlay'
Jo has probably already covered this but it just made me think of you and I wanted to add it while it was fresh in my mind.

I have spoken to the family and they have said thank you to everyone who donates either money or items. Anythign is welcome. If they have too many of 2 item it will be sold on ebay when an account is set up and the money put into the memoriam fund. So either way it will be a massive help. So thank you0
