I finally got round to going to Morrisons for some flower buckets, found them stacked in piles of 8 under a table near the bouquets of flowers, 8 for 99p!! Such a bargain, I got 3 lots!! So if anyone lives near the Morrisons on Chatsworth Road in Chesterfield, they definitely have some there!!

If you live near a coop its worth asking them as they give away the black flower buckets free of charge

Lidl's Tesco's and Asda give them away to. suppose it would depend on the Manager/Assistant in each store how generous they are and don't ask one thats in a bad mood :rotfl: Some Coop's will ask for a donation in their charity box. But at the end of the day 8 for 99p is a bargain.

It would make life a lot easier if all supermarket branches were run exactly the same and not certain ones doing/selling different things. If all the aisles were in the same order at Tesco,Asda,Morrisons it would make life so much easier.

both my mum and i used loads of these last year, but be warned they do split easy, so buy more than you think you need.

I have found if they are no flower buckets out all you need to do is ask and i often find they give you alot more than 8 for 99p. i've once been given 20 for 99p becuase they had so many.

What sort of things do people use them for? Do you drill holes in them, I assume for planting? What sized plants? Would they take a tomato plant, for example?

yes i drilled holes in them.

i used mine for sweet peas, lobelia, onions, carrots, pumpkins ( one plant per pot tho ) , peas, leeks, sping onions, radish.

i think my mum used hers for tomatos plants mainly ( she grew too many, lol) and peppers.
  • I bought 6 lots of 8 today at the local morrisons, ( they had loads)
how many carrots, leeks etc would you reckon would comfortably fit in one pot?
what other veg/salad/fruit have people grown in them?

I'm so excited being a first time grower... that even getting some flower buckets made my day :D

I grow all my tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and Marketmore cucumbers in these, they will also do for 3 chilli plants.

Just go careful when drilling the drainage holes as they split quite easily.

Oooh, pumpkins, really? I've put off getting pumpkin seeds because I didn't think I'd be able to grow them in tubs. Might try a the spring onions and leeks too.

I've used some of mine for carrots and tomatoes so far. How many carrot plants did you have in each bucket?
 Mummy to an amazing little girl
