Is it Easy to Fit New Bath Taps?

the cold tap on my bath has been seizing up for ages so much that i really have to tighten it to stop water dripping. Anyway other day turned the water off at the stopcock and got my diy book out and followed simple instructions on removing the head of the tap and the valve to clean it and check the washer. but its the top part which the head turns that is stiff I lubricated it with silicon spray and still its now worse since i put the tap on and the tap leaks around the base too. Its safe for now. But going to get new taps from screwfix for sink and bath. My bath taps are inaccessible under the bath due to the panel which i have never removed but i am sure i could do with care. do I need a plumber or can i do it myself??

Remove panel , the ease of changing taps is governed by the available space.
If you have the space, buy correct 'spanner' ...... much cheaper than a plumber.
If the space is really tight . have a rethink , still might be worth a shot.0 -

I have an adjustable spanner which is great to use. I could remove the panel but its got sealant to the tiles next to the toilet etc.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
This is a question that I have often pondered.
We have a bath where the taps are in the middle at the back and as far as I can see are completely unaccessible even if I did remove the bath panel. The trouble is, although they work OK, they're pug ugly Victoriana type taps and if it looked easy to change them I'd have done it ages ago.
Is there a trick to changing taps when they're positioned like this?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
You might not need to change the whole tap - you can get tap reviver/rejuvenator kits which replace the top half of the tap assembly and cure most problems.

thanks for that I was looking at these but the base of the cold tap leaks from the seal to the bath and if not careful I could end up with a powerful jet of water hitting the ceiling. the whole tap is knackered and to be honest the taps are over ten years old now, and need something more modern or the old fashioned style. I just need to know whether any soldering is involved from the tap to the copper pipe???Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
The main probelm is getting to the pipes under the bath.
If you go ahead with this, consider using pushfit pipe connectors and/or flexible hoses, and fit a service valve on each pipe so that you can shut the supply off to each tap for maintenance work in future.
No soldering is involved0 -

It may be wonderful , but it wont shift a bath tap nut ,
You need the correct tap spanner, not an adjustable , must work a 90 degreesbut its got sealant to the tiles next to the toilet
And the problem is ???
Cut the sealant0 -
Try screwfix , £50 -
That spanner reminds of the gynaecologist who wallpapered his hallway through the letter box..."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
