Hi badger1964 - As you have already found out, the staff on BG's customer service desks can be less than helpful when faced with a problem that's outside their everyday experience, and their "Borrow some money from a neighbor" solution to a problem caused by BG is appalling.
As georgeous-ellie-belle has posted, get back on the phone and demand to speak to a manager, and write down the name of each person you speak to and the time of the call.
I'm saddened by the fact that your post for help brought little more than comments on the way the post was written, but to make sure you get action that is followed through I'm afraid it's a pen to paper job.
Write to BG heading the letter Complaint.
There is little wrong with the way you have expressed yourself in your post, except the last paragrah with needs a space after every full stop to break up a huge wad of text, so with a little adjustment your post can become the wording of the letter.
By putting your problem in a Complaint letter, it is dealt with by a special team and gives you access to the Ombudsman if you are still not happy
Very best of luck0 -
I think it's the way some posters respond - nothing wrong with offering advice as to how to get a better response for example
'Hi Badger it would really help if you could put some paragraphs and punctuation into your post as it's a bit difficult to read at the moment. I'm sure you would then get more people reading it and able to offer you advice'.
However, people sometimes come across as a bit sarky (I'm sure in most cases without meaning to although there are quite a few on other threads who really can't seem to help correcting even minor grammatical and spelling errors. Hope I haven't made any)
When someone is desperate for help you can see why people like stephen25uk find it difficult to comprehend people commenting on layout rather than offering helpful advice.If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

Fair point...But Stephen did not add anything to help at all. At least telling the op that the post was so hard to read most did not bother did actually help as they changed it and got a response.
However..It still remains that no one can help with their lack of gas and lack of money, the advise to write and complain was great but will not help right now so really not sure what else anyone can suggest.
You are right in as much that there are different ways to say things but in all honesty as this is an open forum no one can control how something is said, it is really down to how people take things .
We could have said nothing but really would that have helped either ?
No one was mean or cruel just honest.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

I know it is an open forum but I always try to follow Martin's advice of 'be nice to all money savers'. I hope I didn't come across as suggesting that anyone was mean or cruel as I agree it is just sometimes the way something comes across.
What I have noticed on some of the boards though is that some people are downright unpleasant and I can't understand why.Surely the reason we all use this forum is to help and be helped. Oh well, I suppose there's nowt as strange as folk!

Do you have any carers or support workers that you could speak to? Or get a crisis loan to tide you over with gas until you get your meter?
I would definately put your complaint in writing, even if you don't have the BG staff members names include days and times of each event if you have them. Send it via royal mail not on line, they seem to ignore complaints online. You could also speak with www.consumerdirect.gov.uk they may be able to help.
I think I spoke with the same woman yo did, I was told to top up £1 a day until my meter recieves a message, she then got shirty with me because I snapped it was costing me £10 a day which was the reason I was phoning.0 -
I really do wish idiots would stop whining about bad english on an energy help forum,for christs sake this is a help forum not an english examination forum so shut up bloody moaning:mad:
Just in case anyone wonders i can't spell either i rely on a spell checker-do i give a toss no!0 -
Look!! http://www.englishforums.com/ This is an EFL forum, people actively look to be critisiced and corrected!!
Seriously, I forgot to mention before that British Gas are able to send cheques out so make sure you get that letter sent off detailing what this has cost you, it doesn't matter on your circumstances, payments for gas should be providing you with gas. One of the first people i spoke with said she would credit my card rather than send a cheque, as it would be quicker0 -

Well, at least I was not rude..
I was also not whining about " bad English" The post was so difficult to read that it would have made giving a reply difficult as the point was totally lost among all the words strung together without a break, clearly the op was able to change that and did so quickly and got some usefull replies.
No one said anything about the spelling or the use of the text speak so maybe, just maybe we were trying to help
I really wish that people would not just pop up on a thread half way through to complain about a post and then offer nothing of any use to the op but that is life and I will have to deal with it.
This is only a forum and I do think there is a danger of taking it all a little too personally.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Many of us find it difficult or impossible to read great swathes of text on a computer screen, this may be a vision or neurological issue NOT simply personal preference. It is not dissimilar to some dyslexics finding it much easier to read something on a particular colour of paper; perhaps you could exercise some tolerance instead of labelling us "whining ... idiots"? :rotfl:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
