Have just caught up with the thread, it's so lovely reading everybody's adventures

had a haircut this morning and the hairdresser asked what I would be doing for the rest of the day and I explained about needing some more dishes for this online thing I was involved in, and ended up explaining it all. She was very interested in the money saving part of it and I will be emailing the link to here and weezl's blog in a minute so she can have a look - yay, another recruit

took some Twinks and apple curd to Mum's yesterday and they went down very well

oooo arty, well done on the bread. What's your secret? :rotfl:

I am definitely going to have to poach my chicken next time - it sounds so lush. Do you add anything to the liquid or is it just plain water?

Ooo Allegra, I did the same thing a few nights back with the risi e bisi. Precooking the peas makes them verrrry mushy but actually much better in the dish (and improves overall texture). I was very dubious when mixing it all in as the peas looked more like goo, but it was very nice. I like shanks's idea of sweetcorn too, yum!

Wish I hadn't bought lemons now as another one went mouldy so I just juiced the remaining 2 and had 1 glass of lemonade. Could've bought a can of Lilt for half the price! *rolleyes* my own fault for not being inventive enough with them...too busy being lazy and waiting for weezl to tell me what to do! :D :rotfl:

Oh and weezl, I have a message for you:

Ok thats me back just finished watching the Grand National and came in 1st and 2nd so really chuffed. Going to do the pasta sauce and bread and will start the carrot cake as well. Also away to cook the chicken
Well done Arty glad everything worked for you. You have managed to get a lot done today that will help you later on in the month. If you dont have a lot of containers to store things do what i do and buy SP food bags they are about 80p for 100 bagsI put everything in there and find that a bag will squish in easier than a box and you dont need to buy freezer bags I have been using the food ones for years with no probs.

Just been catching up after not being around much. Unexpected visitors coming for coffee and cake tomorrow morning, so I think I'll have a go at making the carrot cake for them.
Interesting that others thought the marrowfats need to be mushy in the risi e bisi, I thought I wouldn't precook them so long next time, so they stayed a bit firmer! When I made it I used chicken stock from the slow cooker, which gave a very good flavour.
Incidentally, did anyone see The Edible Garden on Wednesday? The hippy presenter on there had a box of Leo marrowfats, which she planted to grow for peashoots. Might be worth a try for anyone who buys them then finds they hate them cooked.

hi all :D thanks for the great tips, hints and recipe feedback, I really really appreciate it. I am here reading but also trying to build us a website which is very time consuming!

Frankie, I haven't ignored your breakfast porridge issue, but I know I'll be in a better position to compare the nutrition of the porridge with the toast options once Lesley's had a chance to create the new features on her super-duper spreadsheet, so I'm just pausing til then, in the meantime, enjoy it! :)

Hope evryone is ok and not struggling with crusty pizzas!

    Much love to you all,

    Weezl x

thanks for that Murrell :) I'm hoping to put mung beans in planner 3, will it work with them? If at some point you could do a test drive I'd love that :)

No problem I don't mind doing a test drive! We always have mung beans in as we sprout them. I've never cooked them before! Only ever use mung dal (split mung beans) to cook with. Anyway I am off on Wednesday and Thursday, so will try to soak them for 24 hours so I can test the recipe then. Will hopefully report back on them later in the week.

Cooked single portions of 4 recipes today.

Carrot Cake. Used brown sugar, cooked in in 1lb loaf tin, fan oven 160c for 45 mins.
may need less time in standard gas or electric oven as mine seems to take a bit longer.
cuts into 8 squares or slices. Lovely will make again.:D

Zesty Orange Flim Flam. Cooked this without lid on saucepan and found that I needed to add more water. This small amount was not really enough to use stick blender so would cut everything up small before I start. Nice and Tangy another winner.:D

Apple curd. Again not enough to use stick blender, beat well with wooden spoon, bits acceptable. Not to sharp.:D

Spicy Pea and Apple Soup. Not a winner with me.

Well day 5 over and another success.Pizza was well received and was really tasty and again filling. Didnt have anything with it and was enough to eat.
I have also poached the chicken not done the pastry will do when i get home from work tomorrow, frozen the rest of the pizza dough and sauce and made 2 Paul Merrit loaves which look and smell delicious and did the carrot cake which is tasty but has stuck to the bottom of the dish even though it was well greased. It will only come out in chunks so may not do 16 days (oh no how will i cope:D) So a fairly productive day even though i wasnt here for most of it and we are both looking forward to the pie tomorrow. Hope everyone else has had a good day and we have almost completed our 1st week how cool is that?:T
