Weezl and friends Phase 2 -giving it a whirl for Shirl! Testing meal plan for a month
Comments
-
weezl That's exactly what it smelt like but once it was cooked it was fine and tasted yum.
Perhaps at the end of the month there will be ingredients that we have too much of and that extra could be substituted for the 'extra' ingredients.
I, too, am finding it a bit of work. I don't often do pastry more than once a couple of weeks or so and I don't bake bread but I'm hoping that I'll get into a groove with it and then it will feel more natural.
As an aside, I'm finding DH very supportive of it all, which I wasn't expecting so perhaps there is hope for poor old Bob yet!
Oh, I've just made the soup. I don't have a stick blender, though, so I'm not sure how or if I'm going to blitz it yet.0

I acknowledge it's been a lot of cooking and with full time work and essays that's a very tall order. I feel like you're testing it to the max, because this is about as hard as it'll be for a mythical Bob, working, studying and trying to do all this cooking. I don't work now but when working full time with four childrern, studying part-time, a sick husband and a 2 hour round trip to work every day I ALWAYS cooked a meal from scratch, every day. We also had sandwiches made each evening and the family all had chores to do each morning and evening. Itdidn't kill us and it meant I knew what they were eating and it was always healthy, and we could afford a good holiday every year. We didn't make our own bread or nut butters though I now wish we did beacause they are so good. We made our jams, chutneys, hummous etc. They family all mucked in and can now all cook.
I am pretty sure that this plan is possible to follow by a ' normal' family.
If at the end of the month you feel it's do able then it surely must be!
But I think you should definitely feel the permission (not that you need it!) to call time out if it's too hard IYSWIM? I hope in amongst all this you're getting space for you
While you're here, are there any recipes we've talked about including in the vegetarian or meaty meal planner that you can see easy ways to 'veganise' like the chickpea crumble, risi e bisi, anything you'd do to a pizza if you couldn't afford the cheese substitutes, that kind of thing...
Have you tried my spicy lentil cotttage pie? I also make a wicked veggie lasagne:D
We cheated a bit today and pressure cooked the chicken. It saved time as I wasn't organised this morning and was probably overcooked as I decided to look up cooking times after nearly and hour and it should have been 8 minutes per pound. But very tasty and we made stuffing again too as we had some stale crusts. I have been trying to save them as DH gives rusts to the hens.
business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Wow sorry about prev didnt realise it took up so much space. Well thats 6 out of 6 meals all fully approved by ex. Pie was lovely and more filling than i expected at the last minute realised that we were having pots with it so had to chop some up finely and boil them to make mash but it was fine.
Weezl sorry i am not going to be able to do planner tomorrow cant justify spending 2-3 hours boiling the pudding when i am only going to get home about 7pm. I think i will jump onto Tues meal (the chilli) and do the pudding on Wed which is my day off. Also think that having 2 "pie" like meals on consecutive days is too much and is going to spoil ex having this much meat in 1 week when he was almost a veggie last week. Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow and good luck to those doing the bacon pudding will read with interest how you all get on xx0

Put the soup in the food processor in the end. Very tasty, very oniony, but DH and I both liked it.
I'm going to portion out and freeze the rest.0

Thanks Shanks :T (ohhhh that rhymes :rotfl::rotfl:) (ohhhh that rhymes :rotfl::rotfl:)
I dunno what or where I thought it was
I think the last 4 days of early shift has messed with my head:p
Just been thinking about the money that this could save Shirley and Bob....
For me, it would save me approx one thousand, to fifeteen hundred pounds(a quarter of their saving), which is not to be sniffed at.
I am currently trying to over pay my mortgage.... and adding that amount to my over payments, could mean that I could be mortgage free in about 8 ish years (if my sums are correct:o) which is well within my plans
I deffo cant wait to try the veggie plan 0 0

Sandra I think that hlf the fresh weight is the dried weight rule applies to all pulses...
But I guess the acid test would be for me to compare the water content of the different pulses, or to compare the calorie value of 100g fresh with 100g dried, which would give a more exact ratio, IYSWIM? If I or you or anyone else doesn't get round to looking into that by tuesday, I'd say lets be pragmatic and assume it's half, how does that sound?
While you're here, are there any recipes we've talked about including in the vegetarian or meaty meal planner that you can see easy ways to 'veganise' like the chickpea crumble, risi e bisi, anything you'd do to a pizza if you couldn't afford the cheese substitutes, that kind of thing...
OK, so I will assume its half, as I won't get much internet time before I cook them with work etc and the little I will get I like to catch up on here!
I will have a look at the list of meals when hubby is at football tomorrow night and see if I can think of any of the mealplan meals being easily veganised. Frugalmumof4 however has veganised a lot of them I remember. I did the veganised version of the chickpea crumble on the 18th March and that worked well.
 Until tomorrow evening
 Sandra

Hi everyone, just popping in to say I made the pizza dough today. Due to unforseen strawberry bread baking, the dough had to spend a lot more time rising than recommended. It didn't rise hugely, but on baking, it is fabulously light and airy. Only me and DS here tonight, but defo a 10 from us two.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

Morning all its getting very quiet on here just heading off to work shortly. Had the porridge again find its best for me if i am working the toast just doesnt keep me going til lunchtime, though i have a fairly active job and on feet all day so it may be fine for someone who has a desk job. Taking the hummous to work and depending what soup the chef has made may have a mug of the with the sarnies.
Still quite motivated and happy to stay on planner and not met any resistance from ex which has made things a bit easier.
Hope everyone has a productive day and speak to you all later.
PS just noticed my extra star yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:j0
