hope it's gone ok arty, sorry I wasn't around :)

have been at playgroup with fergie this morning, but will be doing some more work for kitty this afternoon.

Lesley, what things have I got on the sheet but not the planner? Bit worried I've made a booboo there! Just any one example you can remeber would be handy if you can recall.

okay, fergie away playing now, best do more coding :)

Sian/wendy/allegra and everyone who helpfully joined in our discussion about shirley being frightened of the planner, I had some thoughts:

the tester month was good enough that some pretty experienced cooks with quite an adventurous spirit were willing to try it. We had also become friends and knew we would have each others' support, and were motivated by a desire to help shirl.

even so there was food wastage because I hadn't made some things very clear, and some of the recipes weren't great for everyone (arty and the bread, shanks and the pastry)

A lot of you are the types of people to cope well with a vague recipe or something not quite going according to plan, you found a different dish, chucked in some extra seasonings or whatever, and made a success of the planner.

BUT, this means that the website version still isn't water-tight. novice nervous shirleys who can't get the pastry to behave will still not be well served by the planner.:o They will most likely go away annoyed with us or with themselves.

    This isn't the best.

The thing is that as an intuitive, give it a go person, I am inequipped to change this. I tried yesterday to be super disciplines and follow, letter by letter the onion tart recipe to see if it's wrong as per goggle's feedback. But I just can't! I look at the ingredients, wander into the kitchen, twiddle around a bit, and hey! a pie! And what I've written is my best description of that.

So we've got a bit of a sticking point. We've got something which worked (mostly) for some very bright, capable people who are brave, experimental and as cooks, pretty intuitive about what something should look like. The problem is, that those people (you lot, my lovely testers) weren't in need of the planner cos you'd already found martin and sorted yourselves out. A far cry from shirl.

It's as if I now need to turn the whole thing over to people who follow a recipe properly and carefully to have the whole thing revamped.

But I sense that we can't find those people because they naturally aren't gravitating towards such a madcap sounding challenge.

    Am I making any sense?

    Does anyone agree?

I am not sure that you are right in this respect.

I followed the recipes really carefully for some of them, i.e the chicken and onion pie because I had never done anything like that before and felt that they were quite self explanatory. Although the bread didn't work for me, it did for mr arty so the recipe cant be bad. I am not sure if you can simplify them any more?

Um....basically what I am saying is that how can you make it possible for all recipes to work for anyone apart from cook it for them?

What do people do if a jamie recipe etc..doesn't really work? I think mistakes may be part of teaching Shirley to fish.

    good points arty.

I'm happy to hear it if I've got the wrong end of the stick!

I just wondered if you testers are an exceptional bunch of people who could make it work, but perhaps real shirl can't (but not that she's 'bad'!)
