    Kitty's walnut spread for breakfast

    300g walnuts
    10g sugar
    100ml veg oil
    80g pumpkin seeds
    teaspoon garam masala

blitz in food processor, drizzling in oil, untill you have a runny paste consistency. Aim for something in between smooth and crunchy peanut butter, but a lot looser :)

    This sounds yum.

good grief arty, what on earth do you do/eat before sleeping to have such weird dreams? :D

Mind you, I don't remember my dreams much, so mine may be as weird as yours!

I read loads and loads, normally a novel a day which is quite a alot considering I work 20/25 hours a week and am doing a full time MA. It makes me have quite an active imagination.

The hummus sounds yummy, may have to try to make somexxx

looking again at lesley's river cottage recipe, I think we have some possibilities...

kitty ends the month with half a loaf of leftover bread, so we'll turn it into breadcrumbs, add golden syrup, garam masala/fresh ginger and veg oil and twice bake it and see whether we end up with nice biscuits.

Anyone willing to have a bash?

Sian you must be feeding the housies soon? :)

    hummus challenge :) (anyone willing?)

ok so kitty and her family have to eat a fair few meals which are essentially hummus on toast.

What I'd really like to do is make sure the flavours are as varied as possible, so I wonder if people can play a game called- take one lot of chickpeas (just buy a can of them and divide it into 3 having blitzed it with oil) then try and create 3 very dissimilar tasting spreads.

Available spices/seasonings: garlic, mustard, garam, salt, pepper, fresh ginger, dried oregano, fresh basil

other available things: peas, onion, balsamic vinegar

    best of british :D

So, nnoommmoonnnn, don't do...nmnoomnnn.... it people...... hummmnoomnnnusss..... not good, tastes.....nnnssmmoooonnnmmmoonnn.... send all to me.....nnoommmonommonom.... will dispose for you.....nnoommmmonommm

Okay, okay. experiment 1- caramelised onion hummus...
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
    1 tbsp sugar

Place onion on baking sheet (mine had silicone liner on it)
Mix vinegar and sugar together and drizzle over
Turn onion over with hands until covered

Bake at the bottom of the oven (underneath something else you are cooking!) until softened and browned turning over occasionally (at 200C this took about 30 minutes)

Stir into 100g of hummus with 1tsp garlic puree

Stand in kitchen and eat with a teaspoon.
    Umm... scrap the last bit...

    Option 2- lightly spicy hummus

to 100g hummus, add 2 tsp garlic puree, 2 tsp garam masala, mix well

The garam adds a lovely sweetness to it which counteracts the extra garlic.
Probably good to not have this if you fancy a snog with someone who isn't eating it.

Am having it with some red lentil pate, leftover bechamel and tomato sauce mixed together and some homemade chips!
God is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

ok I'm loving the sound of sian's recipes :)

Sian, the acid test, do you feel that they taste different enough that if you had one as a sarnie one day for lunch, and t'other the next (but not everyday/otherday, just a few times) would it feel like 2 different sandwich fillers?
