Why can't we freeze the omlette? I make a crustless quiche (with cheese, eggs and veggies) and that freezes fine - only difference is you bake it rather than fry...

    Just wondering :)

I have'nt had good experiences with frozen quiches etc. I find the egg goes a bit mushy and watery and tasted really disgusting. It was many years ago but the thought of it makes me retch. Maybe others have had more success but i wouldnt do it.

am I right in thinking people are less keen to try the vegan recipes?

I feel they've been less tried, but I can't work out if that's just how I'm seeing it, rather than that it's true IYSWIM?

Am I making them look attractive enough on the site? :)

Speaking for myself, I'm a part-time Shirley at the mo, with an eye on a couple of Kitty's meals - but I can't eat Kitty's food until I've eaten my Shirley food - IYSWIM?

I wanna try the red pepper tart and saag aloo (for example) but can't until AT LEAST next week *grump* :(

If I rename it just 'bubble' will that be better? Or will you still squeak? ;)

bubble and squeak (with no cabbage) fritters - hmmmn, a catchy little title :p

"Bubble (not Squeak) Fritters" actually sounds pretty damn cool, to me! :T

weezl, I could have a stab at whatever you want on the tables, but I seriously doubt I'd be of any use as tables are the hardest thing for me to wrap my head around!

Please can I just check something for the Moroccan rice recipe - do you just add the frozen vegetables in their frozen state? No cooking at all? Or am I completely missing the point? This sounds like it would be tasty, but I want to make sure I make it correctly! I'm also planning on trying the sag aloo when I can work it into the HG meal plan.
Also Allegra's Croatian potato salad doesn't seem to be on the website. Have we lost it?

    pinkhayley-cooooo-eeeee! Are you there?

I wonder if you would mind doing what you did with the leftovers article, but this time to give shirl a very basic beginners idea about growing her own?

ie the savings she'd make on our planner/extra treats she could have if she sows a few seeds?

Perhaps we could all chip in with our tips :)

I'll start, if shirley grew basil, chives and thyme/oregano on her window ledge in her kitchen, she'd have a brilliant way of jazzing up many of our dishes. Basil is beautiful in the panzanella and HM calzone, chives would be gorgeous in the spanish omelette and thyme in the vegan tarte tatin-nomnomnom :D

As I read the above post, I remembered a book I gave to my brother for Xmas. He's not 'poor' (or well-off! lol), and is on the edges of growing-your-own...the book I gave him was:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Gem-Food-Richard-Mabey/dp/0007183038/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274821867&sr=8-2

AND SO....how about a "recommended reading" list? Books on growing, foraging, thrift? Perhaps books that the plan developers and testers would say are invaluable to them (again, this is teaching Shirley how to fish, the next step from her 1 month plan)...? Could include books such as (can't remember the titles!) Martin Lewis' book, the Benefit cookbook (live on £5 a day?), beginners guide to growing your own, make do and mend, foraging, jam/chutmey making, gift making...etc? (get yourself some affiliate links and earn some money from each book ordered!)

Thought Shirley, Kitty, or the other lady (can't remember her name :o ) might find a reading list (to further her knowledge and continue to fish more productively) interesting :)

I can do rainbow, the article I read about it may be out of date :o

fill me in? I like learning new stuff :)

I meant just add the bits that I added (and bolded so you could see it) :o

With fresh foods this isn’t always the case. For example: in the winter a large proportion of the potatoes eaten in the UK have taken 2-3 weeks to reach the supermarket shelves, coming from Egypt.

I just added words to your words (and bolded it for you to see them) for clarity :)

I just asked DH if he was happy that instead of buying handbags I attempt to save poor shirley with a website.

    He laughed.

I don't do handbags (or shoes) either. :D

No add in the sweetcorn straight from freezer no cooking makes the recipe even easier. Not sure about the croatian salad will put it on my nag weezl list however i dont see it listed to be served with anything what meal is it served with HG?
  • I've never done the bashing the chicken bones thing, will def do that next time.

REMEMBER to strain/sieve after cooking! Cooked chicken bones SHATTER and can be as sharp as glass...

    (that's a note for Shirley, BTW :) )
