Vitamins fall into two categories: fat soluble and water soluble. The fat-soluble vitamins — A, D, E, and K — dissolve in fat and can be stored in your body. The water-soluble vitamins — C and the B-complex vitamins (such as vitamins B6, B12, niacin, riboflavin, and folate) — need to dissolve in water before your body can absorb them. Because of this, your body can't store these vitamins. Any vitamin C or B that your body doesn't use as it passes through your system is lost (mostly when you pee). So you need a fresh supply of these vitamins every day.

I think I'm with you sandra, and I read that about vit C too.

But then I get a bit perplexed by those sources we were looking the other day about how B12 stays in the body for 6-20 years. Do you know if that's just B12?

      It's great arty, thanks :)

And very exciting it's still within budget :) I think that means it's been stable for 2 months at least :)

I think the reason it is below budget is the lack of 750g ready oats but that would only add a pound or so on, so we would still be withinxxx

Good question!! I wish I hadn't thrown away the course info I was doing on vegan nutrition! I didn't complete it and it was during the vitamin section that I gave up, I found it so difficult remembering the proper names for all the different vitamins. This was 14 years ago!

I will see what I can find out. (perhaps tomorrow)

I remembered why I don't make chicken stock... I end up making chicken noodle soup because it always smells so damn yummy :D

Can the budget stretch to keeping back some stock and some chicken pickings and a handful of pasta for some chicken soup? (add some flour and milk for a creamy soup) Actually, never mind the pasta, chuck in some rice for chicken and rice soup (the rice thickens it a bit too) since there is already rice being used. (remember and bash up the chicken bones to get flavour to the MAX)

OK business only chat now I promise:

I have a batch that kitty makes once a week, she uses the same bag of bread flour, lobs in different thigs at a few different stages and ends up with 3 loaves of oaty enriched bread, 4 calzone pizzas and a sweet spicy carrot loaf.

How can I index that from the recipes list? Does it all sit as one recipe? how do people feel about it?

It's quite hard to seperate it out into 3 recipes because of the method...

I'll just post some other things I'm working on tonight as incentive to me and if anyone likes to keep updated, tonight I'm going to code up the sweetcorn fritters, bread, carrot loaf and rice pudding for the vegan planner and then code the kitlist.

Shanks did anyone get back to us about the photoshop task?

Aless, did your rusty HTML strtch to tables?

What other writing/jobs might folk like to volunteer for?

      xxx

I'm not sure if anyone thought there was spare chicken tia, that's a great question... The pies can go lower than 50g chicken per person with a really stocky gravy... but I think the other dinner with the not bubble and squeak:p would be very meat lite with less, I think...

Are you gonna try it with doing the stretching to 16 dinners? If you do, can you see if there's enough for the soup? What I'll do though, is pop your recipe with the leftovers article, and then if there's spare chicken cos one of the family is very wee and doesn't eat much, shirl will have your great idea?

      Howzat?

Lesley, when I have to reheat something from the freezer in the oven I also make some scones or a coconut loaf (nice and frugal, the two) to make best use of the oven :) Or perhaps you can plan to make a half-batch of bread every time you have to use the oven to reheat something ?

Weezl, I can dig out my little ledger of garden produce I kept last year if you want ? As it was my first time of growing anything other than herbs, I weighed all the stuff I grew and worked out how much it would have cost me at current prices in the supermarket, then took off the costs (seeds, feed, etc.) to see how much growing my own saved me.

I must say, though, herbs were by far the best value, as was foraged stuff (blackberries, herries, chestnuts). From what I can recall off the top of my head, my conclusion was that if the only reason for groing your own was to save money, then you'd best stick to herbs, chillies and salad leaves, with perhaps a couple of runner bean plants, a courgette plant and a couple of cucumber plants thrown in if you have the space. The rest, for me (small garden) just about broke even.
