  • Hi All

    (de lurks)

I have been a a lurker since you all embarked on this journey. I think this is fantastic I have had a substainal drop in income this is perfect for me and my family.....we are following the first week the planner at the moment.

I just wanted to add my thoughts on your mayo problems......for the oil to emulsify with the mustard and turn into mayo the oil needs to be drizzled in very very slowly in a thin trickle. Or teaspoon at a time. Only adding more when the consistency changes

    I hope that helps???

Just for Arty, cos I know she likes pics - the fruits of the day's efforts:

And just as a proof that you do not need a huge kitchen to batch cook, here's all the rest of the kitchen that can not be seen in the first photo:

Hello, BBH :) Glad to hear that the plan is working for you :T

I think I just realised what went wrong with my mayo - I put in mustard powder rather than mustard. How's that for daft ? :o

That shouldnt make a difference Allegra before this challenge i never used or indeed bought powder it was always ready made stuff and never had a problem. Also HOW do you keep your kitchen that clean?!!!!!!!! My god woman have you just moved in?? I could clean for a month (will never happen i assure you) and it still wouldnt look that good. Joking apart that looks really good and lets people know that it can be achieved no matter the size of kitchen they have:T

    Afternoon all :)

Can I just point out a little typo - it says "Diary" anstead of "Dairy" here?

Also - I can't STAND houmous/hummus. I don't know why, cos I love chick peas, garlic etc, just can't stand it all whizzed up together...what should be subbed to give the same nutrients?

How's about a chickpea salad, rainbow ? Use the ingredients in the houmus recipe, only instead of whizzing up in the processor pop into a bowl and dress with the rest of the ingredients (oil, vinegar, lemon, garlic, salt and pepper, even chili powder if you fancy it) - and it might be even nicer if you nick half an onion from another recipe and slice it in.

Shanks, the kitchen looks better in the photos, I promise you.... But its titchy size does have its advantages - there's less to clean :D I do try and look after it, as this is the only kitchen ever I had from new (and probably the only one I ever will, lol).

without any of the snacks the bob and shirl planner is approx 1600-1700 cals daily arty.

Hiyya - can I just ask if this is still the case with the current menu?

Also - is there anywhere that the calorie count for the snacks has been listed?

Will the calorie counts eventually be added to the main site?

    Thanks! :T

    OOH! I just found Phase 1! :j
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2256959

Another 237 pages to [STRIKE]wade[/STRIKE] read through :o

All good info though. I'd much rather learn how to eat as cheaply as poss than have to rejoin the rat-race.

*back to reading THIS thread - only another 40 pages to go!*

Have you tried adding spices to it? I can't stand plain houmous (but I like the individual ingredients too) but love the flavoured stuff! :j Could you try adding some garam masala or chilli? Or adding some caramalised onions? Corriander is good too but it is not on any of the shopping lists!
