Hi all, another lurker coming out of hiding as Weezl caught me mentioning stealing her chicken and onion pie recipe in my diary.
Both myself and my OH really liked the chicken and onion pie and found the recipe made plenty for both of us with roughly half left over. My cats also enjoyed the slice they stole while it was cooling before I put it into the fridge.
I did find that I had to make a bit more pastry to have enough to cover the pie but that might have been me using too much for the base or using a slightly bigger pie dish. Either way, it wasn't much of a problem.
So a big thank you to Weezl and a well done to everyone on this thread as I've really enjoyed reading through it. :beer:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Hi, sorry to be slow to respond, we have had very lovely visitors from the UK, who have left now.
re breadsticks, I think I rolled the dough then spread on the marmite then cut pinwheels. Painting marmite on top would prob have a similar effect.
I would re try this but the grocery store have moved the marmite again and I havent been able to find it on my last 2 visits .
I do remember that they didn't keep well though, so maybe something to make and freeze then bake fresh when you need a few.
Am all caught up now, need to rest Sunday but will then think about what I am resourced to help with.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -
Hi all,
I am one of the many lurkers on the thread and I have subscribed to the web page.
Can someone help me out with the liver pate as it says on the website cook it all but then doesn't state how to get it into pate consistency and since I have never made pate do I presume just whizz it up in the food processor and leave to set in the fridge?
Also I love the snack ideas but since there is just me and DH please can someone let me know how long they would last in an air tight tin (Snacks like the carrot cake, scones, savoury bites etc).
Everyone is going a great job testing and I think the thread and website are great for inspiration.

Hi Sarah,
Take a look at the liver pate recipe as originally posted here. Does that make it clearer ?
As for snacks - carrot cake will keep fine for 8 days in an airtight tin; scones for about 3 days; savoury bites 4-5, although they'll go a bit soft and squashy towards the end of that period.
Do you have much freezer space ? If you keep out only what you and DH will consume in a couple of days, and freeze the rest you'll avoid wastage - just defrost individual slices of cake or a few scones/bites at a time (they'll take 30min to 1 hr to defrost, depending on the temperature of you kitchen.)0 -
Hi Allegra,
Thank you for that, I am currently going through all the posts as I find the recipes really good.
Thank you for the freezer tip too, we have acquired a second freezer recently so that is good for us, I am still getting used to what I can and can't freeze.
Batch baking day for me today then.
Thanks again

Hi Sarah.
I make a half quantity of the carrot cake in an 8" square tin, cuts into 16 squares. It freezes well. Have also made 1/4 of recipe in a 1lb loaf tin.

Jenny and Sarah, I've adjusted the carrot cake and pate recipes according to your helpful feedback. How do they seem now?

...thoughts about Kitty's fresh fruit, Rather than put this on the shopping list, I'm thinking of saying:
When this meal planner is being created, in May 2010, it is possible to get a piece of fresh fruit from Asda for 10p. This gives a choice of pears or apples, and soft citrus fruits. This is £12.40 in a month for 4 people. The shopping list therefore costs £87.60 or less, to make a month's shopping equal £100. You may want to shop for these in store rather than online to ensure you get the maximum number of fruits in the bags of fruit.
Howzat?
Seems to answr the problem of the shifting fruits and also the buy online/buy instore debate pretty well?

In the original carrot cake recipe on the forum is says grated carrot but website recipe just says carrots.
Tin sizes fine.

Aless, what's a Lima bean? is it what we call a kidney bean in the UK?
And a garbanzo is a chick pea right?
And a pinto bean?
And finally a Navy bean?
Thanks lovely
